World Stroke Day is a reminder that stroke can affect the body in different ways, and recovery can look different for everyone.

After a stroke, the body may need different levels of support. Any massage should always be guided by medical advice and adapted carefully around the person, their medical history, medication and how they are feeling on the day.

Massage is not a treatment for stroke, and it may not be suitable for everyone. However, where appropriate, it may help support relaxation, comfort, circulation in the surrounding soft tissues and gentle sensory awareness.

At Essential Thyme, every massage appointment begins with a consultation so Sandra can understand what is safe, suitable and appropriate for each client.

Always let your therapist know about your medical history, medication and any advice from your healthcare team.

Did you know your massage appointment may already be covered?

Some private healthcare plans include complementary therapies, which may include massage appointments with a qualified therapist.

At Essential Thyme, Sandra is registered with professional bodies including IFPA, FHT, CMA and CNHC. However, every healthcare policy is different, so it is important to check directly with your provider to see what your plan includes.

If your policy does cover massage, you may be able to claim back part or all of the cost of your appointment.

Menopause can affect much more than hot flushes.

It can also impact sleep, mood, energy, stress levels and how the body feels day to day. For many women, this can mean more tension, tiredness, aches and the feeling that their body needs more support.

Our latest blog looks at menopause, stress and the body, and why self-care during menopause matters.

It also explains how massage can be part of a wider wellbeing routine, and how appointments at Essential Thyme are tailored around you on the day.

Not sure what massage to book?

At Essential Thyme, you do not need to choose a specific massage type before your appointment. You simply choose the length of your session, and Sandra will tailor the massage around how your body is feeling on the day.

Your body does not feel the same every week, so your massage does not need to either.

Whether you are feeling tension in your back, neck or shoulders, carrying general aches and pains, or simply need time to pause, your appointment will be adapted around you.

World Osteoporosis Day is a reminder to think about bone health and how we look after our bodies over time.

Osteoporosis can cause bones to become weaker, which may increase the risk of fractures. This is why posture, balance, movement and early awareness all matter.

Small habits can make a difference, from keeping active and thinking about posture, to eating calcium and vitamin D rich foods and speaking to a healthcare professional if you have any concerns.

At Essential Thyme, every massage appointment begins with a consultation, so your medical history, comfort levels and how you are feeling on the day can all be taken into account.

Looking after your body now can help support you later.

Training spotlight: Thai Hand & Foot Massage

If you are already working as a therapist and want to add something new to your practice, Thai Hand & Foot Massage Training is a great skill to build on.

This course gives you practical techniques that can be used to support clients who may hold tension through their hands, feet, arms or legs. It is also a lovely addition for therapists who want to offer something a little different alongside their existing massage services.

Training with Essential Thyme takes place in a small, supportive setting, with guidance from Sandra throughout.

Hot flushes are only part of the story.

Menopause can affect the body in many different ways. For some women, it can bring changes to sleep, mood, energy, stress levels and how the body feels day to day.

You may notice more tension through your neck, shoulders or back. You may feel more tired than usual, find it harder to relax, or feel like your body is asking for more support.

Self-care during menopause is not a luxury. It can be part of looking after your wider wellbeing and giving your body time to pause.

At Essential Thyme, every massage appointment is tailored around you on the day, taking into account your medical history, how you are feeling and any areas of tension, knots or general aches and pains.

Make time for self-care this World Menopause Day.

Backcare Awareness Week is a good reminder to think about your posture, especially if you spend a lot of time on your phone, tablet, laptop or gaming.

It is easy to sit hunched forward without realising, but over time this can place extra strain on the neck, shoulders, upper back and lower back.

Small habits can make a difference. Try to check your posture throughout the day, take regular screen breaks, move your body gently and notice where tension is starting to build.

At Essential Thyme, every massage appointment is tailored around how your body is feeling on the day, including areas of tension, knots or general aches and pains.

If your back, neck or shoulders are starting to feel the effects of poor posture, it may be time to book a massage appointment.

Your monthly reminder to stop putting yourself last.

It is easy to keep saying you will book a massage “soon” and then another month passes by.

Our massage memberships are designed to help you make massage a regular part of your self-care routine, not just something you book when your body is already feeling tense, tired or uncomfortable.

Choose from 30, 45 or 60 minute monthly massage appointments, with your session tailored around how your body feels on the day.

Because looking after yourself should not always be last on the list.

Make massage a regular part of your month:

World Mental Health Day is a reminder to check in with yourself, not just mentally, but physically too.

Stress can show up in the body in ways we do not always notice straight away.

Is your jaw clenched?
Are your shoulders lifted?
Is your breathing shallow?
Are you sleeping well?
Do you feel tired, tense or run down?

Small check-ins like this can help you notice when your body might be asking for a pause.

Stress can affect both the mind and body, and the NHS notes that physical signs of stress can include muscle tension, headaches, dizziness and changes in sleep. Massage can give the body time to slow down, relax and focus on areas where tension may be building.

For some people, regular massage may help them feel calmer, more grounded and more aware of how their body is responding to stress. It can also create a quiet space to pause, breathe and step away from the demands of everyday life.Start with one small act of self-care today.
