That fishy smell? Unbearable itching? IYKYK….but do you ever talk about it? 🙊

Well this month’s episode of The Happy Menopause podcast is doing just that, because these are common issues that many women are simply too shy to mention. 😳

I’m chatting to the brilliant Dr Charlotte-Eve Short about the mysteries of bacterial vaginosis (BV) & thrush. ♀️

She’s a Sexual Health Consultant with a clinic at Imperial College NHS partner sites, and a Clinical Associate Professor running a research programme into the recurrence and prevention of BV. 🌟

Charlie is a mine of information about these tricky conditions. We discuss the symptoms, treatment, prevention and how menopause can impact them.👩‍⚕️

If you’ve been struggling with BV or thrush, tune in for her expert and empowering advice. 🎧

I started powerlifting a year ago, and it’s the best thing I ever did! 🏋‍♀️

I’ve noticed so many benefits:

🧡 My grip strength has improved massively and I get a little thrill when I open a really tight jar

🧡 I got the confidence to start running again after a long time out with a knee injury, because my quads and glutes are now much stronger

🧡 I can see the change in my body composition

🧡 It’s incredibly empowering!

🧡 I know my bones will just be loving it!

One of the best things of all is how much fun it is, because I’m training alongside a brilliant bunch of women of all ages and abilities. We laugh together, encourage each other and celebrate our various achievements. I always feel really positive after a session there. 😍

I train at Strength Ambassadors where the coaches are all absolute experts in their field, really nice (despite my moan on the slide!) and incredibly encouraging. I can’t believe the progress I’ve made in the past year. 🎉

Strength is such an important asset for women in midlife and beyond – strong bones and muscles can help take us into a healthy old age. 💪

There’s lots of research around the impact of strength on longevity and the stronger we are, the better our chances of staying independent. I don’t want anyone helping me off the toilet, if I can avoid it! 🚽

What do you do to keep strong? 🧡

Fibre is really good for us, but it can be tricky to get the balance right. ⚖️

We want to get the upside of the multiple health benefits, and not the downside of the bloating that can affect some people with a high-fibre diet. 🤔

And that’s why I chatted to nutritionist and author of The Ultimate High-Fibre Handbook Jenny Tschiesche in the latest episode of The Happy Menopause podcast: Fibremaxxing & the Menopause: The Benefits, The Pitfalls & Getting the Right Balance. 🎧

Tune in to find out about the different types of fibre, what they do for us, where to find them, and how to be smart about a high-fibre diet. Jenny shares some brilliant foodie tips, alongside her expert advice. 🤩

Wondering about magnesium? It’s definitely worth your attention, because it’s a very busy mineral that does a lot of different jobs. 😇

Easing pain and discomfort is one of them, because it’s nature’s calmer. But it can do a lot more for you than that! 🥰

Check out my chat on The Happy Menopause podcast with Andrew Thomas of BetterYou and find out everything you need to know about magnesium. 🧡

Happy World Menopause Day! This year’s theme is chronic pain in midlife, which can come as an unwelcome surprise. 🥺

So, if you’re dealing with aches and pains that just won’t shift, you’re not imagining it, and you’re far from alone. Joint, muscle and back pain are common during and after menopause, and hormonal changes can play a part.

There’s rarely one fix. Think of pain management as a jigsaw: medical support, physio, complementary therapies, and diet and lifestyle. They all play a part and diet can often be the missing piece. 🍽

Swipe through for some ideas to get you started. Movement, strength training, good sleep and ways to manage stress can all help too. 💪

Please see your doctor for advice, especially if your pain is new, severe, getting worse or you’re not sure what’s causing it. Don’t assume it’s ‘just menopause’. If it is, they can also talk to you about HRT, which might help. 👩‍⚕️

I’ve also just released a podcast episode on midlife aches and pains, and how magnesium might relieve symptoms. You can listen here: https://www.well-well-well.co.uk/midlife-aches-and-pains-how-magnesium-might-help/ or wherever you get your podcasts. 🎧

There’s lots more to it than magnesium, of course. If you want the full picture on diet and pain, there’s a whole chapter in my book The Happy Menopause: Smart Nutrition to Help You Flourish, available in all the usual places. 🧡

The Happy Menopause podcast is back! 🎉 And today we’re talking fibremaxxing.

Food trends come and go, don’t they? Low-fat, low-carb, keto, paleo...and now it’s fibre’s turn. 🤩

Don’t get me wrong, I’m delighted that fibre is finally getting its moment. It’s been overlooked for years and it’s incredibly important for our health. But we need to get the balance right to make the most of it and to avoid the risk of bloating and discomfort.

To help us, I’ve invited one of my favourite colleagues, Jenny Tschiesche. She’s a nutritionist and best-selling cookbook author, and her new book, The Ultimate High-Fibre Handbook, could be just what we need. 📖

We talk about:

🧡 The different types: soluble fibre, insoluble fibre and resistant starch, and what each does
🧡 What to consider if you’re thinking of fibremaxxing
🧡 How fibre can support your health in perimenopause, menopause and beyond
🧡 Practical ways to add more fibre using everyday foods
🧡 How to beat the bloat if fibre doesn’t agree with you

It's not easy to get fibre right, and Jenny shares lots of expert advice on this tricky subject, so tune in here:https://www.well-well-well.co.uk/fibremaxxing-the-menopause-the-benefits-the-pitfalls-getting-the-right-balance/, or wherever you get your podcasts, and find out how to get yourself on track. 🌟

I took the summer off social media and it was quite the revelation. 💡

I was shocked at the relief I felt. Suddenly the burden of worrying about posting too little, too much, what to post, or what traction I'd get just slipped off my shoulders. I hadn't realised how much pressure it was putting on me. 😳

And guess what? It didn't change anything at all, my clinic has actually been busier these past few weeks, I've had plenty of workshop bookings and I've had some headspace to work on my new book. Brilliant! This has been a really useful learning experience. 🎉

But it is mid-September now, so I thought I'd pop up to say hello and share my new routine. After a niggling knee injury that took ages to heal, and even longer to convince myself it really had healed and I could go for it, I'm back running again! 🏃‍♀️

I've got shiny new Saucony trainers and I've been out running around the park and the woods. It's just so exhilarating and I'm thrilled to be back. I'm taking it steady to avoid any injury and I'm building it up slowly. 😇

So that's what I'm up to! What have you picked back up after the summer break? 🧡

We're back in heatwave territory, so staying hydrated matters more than ever. 🥵 But what if you're not much of a water drinker? 🥺

Good news! Hydration doesn't only come from what's in your glass. 💧 Plenty of everyday foods are packed with water too, some more than you'd expect.

Swipe through for 10 foods (including the odd surprise!) that'll help top you up, even if you're struggling to finish your water bottle. 🎉

I hope you’re managing to keep cool, one way or another! ❄️

Sunrise yoga, wild swimming, amazing food, local w**e, lounging by the pool, and a bunch of brilliant women all in the setting of a beautiful 14th century farmhouse in the Loire Valley! 😍

Soulful Summer Yoga with Jayne Miller was the perfect July treat, and I loved every second of it as I continue my 60th year project of taking time for myself.

I’d highly recommend Retreat to the Farm where we were warmly welcomed by Sam and his family. It truly was a home-from-home, and I had the best time! I see they have a Yoga, W**e & Wild retreat coming up with Vinoyasa, which looks pretty amazing too. Just saying….🍷🧘‍♀️

What little summer treats have you got planned for yourself? 🧡
