October is a great month to start a gentle morning stretch routine before you get out of bed.

As the mornings get colder, our muscles and joints take longer to warm up, and those first few minutes after waking are when we are most vulnerable to stiffness and strain.

Give this a go before you even sit up - gently hug both knees to your chest and rock side to side for 30 seconds. Then let your knees drop slowly to one side, hold for a breath, and switch. Stretch your arms overhead and point and flex your feet.

By the time your feet hit the floor, your body will have had a gentle warm-up that costs you less than two minutes.

Do this every morning for a week, and you will notice the difference!

Bone is, gram for gram, stronger than steel.

A matchbox-sized block of bone can bear a load of up to nine tonnes before breaking, yet despite this extraordinary strength, bones are remarkably lightweight, making up only around 15% of your total body weight.

This combination of strength and lightness comes from an intricate internal scaffolding called trabecular (or cancellous) bone, a lattice of tiny struts arranged along the lines of force the bone most commonly experiences.

It's an amazing feat of engineering that no human-made material has yet managed to replicate. Your skeleton is quite literally a masterpiece!

As the clocks prepare to go back and the mornings get darker, now is a really important time to think about your vitamin D intake.

The UK sits too far north to produce vitamin D from sunlight between October and March, which means that for the next six months, diet and supplementation are your only reliable sources.

The NHS recommends that everyone in the UK considers a daily vitamin D supplement of 10 micrograms through autumn and winter.

Vitamin D is essential for bone health, muscle function, immune support and mood regulation. It's one of the simplest, cheapest and most evidence-backed things you can do for your health this winter.

It’s definitely worth adding to the shopping list this week!

Your spine is remarkable, with 33 vertebrae, 23 intervertebral discs, over 100 joints, and a network of muscles, ligaments, and nerves that work together every second of every day to keep you upright, mobile, and functional.

It puts up with a lot, whether long hours sitting, heavy lifting, poor posture, stress, or not enough movement, often without complaint - until one day when it makes itself known.

On World Spine Day, we simply want to say - look after your spine, and it will look after you. Move regularly, sit less and sleep well, and d if it's been trying to get your attention for a while, then come and see us; it is exactly what we are here for!

Around 10 million people in the UK are living with arthritis, which is roughly one in six of us. It affects people of all ages, not just the elderly, and the impact on daily life can be enormous.

If you're one of those 10 million people, we want you to know that osteopathy has a genuine, evidence-based role to play in managing arthritis and can help to improve joint mobility, reduce muscle tension and help you to move more freely and with less pain - these are outcomes our patients with arthritis experience regularly.

You deserve more than just being told to manage it - we would welcome a chat about how we can help!

Mental and physical health are not separate things. They are deeply connected, and at this clinic, we treat the whole person, not just the symptom.

Chronic pain affects mental health, and anxiety and stress can both manifest physically, and poor sleep impacts both - everything is more closely linked than you may think

If you are going through a difficult time mentally and it's showing up in your body, whether that’s tight shoulders, a stiff jaw, or a lower back that won't settle, then Osteopathy can help with the physical piece of that picture.

If you need mental health support, please reach out to your GP or a trusted person - you don't have to manage either alone.

If you have been diagnosed with arthritis, you may just think it is something that you have to accept and 'put up with',...

It's Back Care Awareness Week, and as osteopaths, this one feels close to home.

Back pain is the single biggest cause of disability in the UK. It affects people of all ages, all backgrounds and all activity levels, and yet so many people either struggle on alone or assume nothing can be done.

However, back pain is not something you just have to put up with - the vast majority of back pain responds extremely well to the right treatment, and the sooner you get it assessed, the faster and more completely it tends to resolve.

If you've been putting up with a bad back, then take this as your sign - the link to book is in our bio!
