ππ Embrace the shift into Autumn, the season of letting go ππ
I love this time of year. The crisp morning air, the leaves changing colour and slowly starting to drop to the ground, creating a beautiful blanket beneath our feet. The subtle magical change in the light. It's a time for nourishing soups and hearty meals, snuggling up on the sofa with a good book.
In Seasonal Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), autumn is such a powerful time of transition. We are moving away from the bright, active Yang energy of summer and gently stepping into the quiet, introspective Yin energy of the cooler months.
Autumn belongs to the Metal element in TCM, which is all about clarity, structure, and the vital art of letting go. This season directly influences our Lung and Large Intestine meridians. While the Lungs help us take in clear, fresh autumn air to boost our immunity, the Large Intestine reminds us to eliminate and shed whatever is no longer serving us - just like the trees dropping their leaves.
Because autumn carries a lot of dry energy, you might be noticing it in your skin, a tickly throat, or even just feeling a bit more tired and emotional than usual. On the yoga mat, we can beautifully balance all of this by focusing on opening our chest, shoulders, and arms to stimulate those Lung and Large Intestine meridian lines. It is the perfect time of year to slow down with some deep chest openers, gentle twists, and restorative Yin poses that help us breathe deeply and process the seasonal shift.
If you are looking for a space to ground yourself and nourish your body as the nights draw in, I would love for you to join me on the mat. I am currently away soaking up some sunshine and exploring in Australia, but I am already so excited to welcome you all back when I return.
Seasonal yoga classes will be running every Wednesday evening at 6:00pm at the Dunlop Village Hall, starting back on Wednesday 14th October. It is going to be the perfect weekly sanctuary to stay warm, protect our energy, and navigate the season together. There's no need to book, just drop in. The cost is Β£10 (card or cash).
How are you feeling in your body with the changing season? I'd love to hear how you are adjusting your routines.
I hope to see you soon.
