STORY TIME...
💩 THE DAY I FAILED A 330KG DEADLIFT AND S**T MYSELF IN FRONT OF A CROWD. 😂
Let's rewind about 6 years to an ascending ladder deadlift competition. A day that taught me a valuable lesson in competition preparation, although probably not the one I was expecting.
Now, back then my approach to getting fired up for a big lift was a little questionable.
I'd decided that taking an absolute boatload of ephedrine beforehand was a fantastic idea. What could possibly go wrong? 😂
Well, quite a lot as it turns out.
The competition was underway, the weights were climbing and I was rushing around like a headless chicken trying to make sure I was ready for my next attempt.
By this point the stimulants had well and truly kicked in. My heart was racing, adrenaline was through the roof and any ability to think rationally had completely left the building.
I wasn't focused. I wasn't composed. I was absolutely fu***ng wired.
Then came 330kg.
Now, 330kg was a serious weight for me back then, but certainly not something I was going to approach with any degree of patience or intelligence in that state.
I stepped up to the bar, strapped myself in and tried to summon every ounce of aggression I had left.
Big breath. Brace. Pull.
Absolutely nothing went to plan.
The bar wasn't going anywhere, my head had completely gone and somewhere in the middle of that almighty struggle, my bowels decided they'd had enough as well.
330kg failed. Dignity gone. S**t myself. Literally. 😂💩
All that preparation, all that adrenaline and all I'd managed to achieve was a failed deadlift and a pair of shorts that had seen better days.
Fast forward 6 years and things have changed considerably.
I'm stronger, more experienced and have a much better understanding of how to approach competition day. I've learned that being completely off your t**s on stimulants isn't necessarily the recipe for a successful performance.
Sometimes the biggest lessons come from the biggest f**k-ups.
Although, in the interest of complete transparency, I do still s**t myself on occasion.
So perhaps I haven't evolved quite as much as I'd like to think.😂
