Triangle is a pose about length, not depth. Sometimes, when we chase the floor, the bottom side of the waist shortens and the chest turns down towards the mat.

A block brings the floor up to meet you. Props aren’t a shortcut or a beginner’s option. They let the pose fit your body, rather than forcing your body to fit the pose.

The deeper version isn’t always the better version. In extended side angle, reaching the floor often costs the very thing the pose is there to give you, which is space.

This pose opens the whole side body, from the outer edge of your back foot to your fingertips. When the chest folds in, the ribs on the top side can’t expand and the breath gets short and shallow.

A shallow breath tells your nervous system to brace. A full one tells it you’re safe to stay.

In warrior 2, it’s easy to forget about the front knee until it starts to complain.

If your knee drifts inward, press through the outer edge of the foot while keeping your big toe grounded. This switches on the muscles around the hip, which draws the thigh back out so the knee can track toward your middle toes and line up over the ankle.

It changes the feel of the whole pose too. Legs strong and rooted, so the upper body can soften.

Any other overstimulated mamma’s out there?! 😅😵‍💫🥰

Upward dog and cobra often get treated as the same pose, but they ask different things of the body.

In upward dog, the legs do as much work as the arms. Pressing the tops of the feet down lifts the thighs away from the mat, and that’s what gives the lower back its length.

When the legs switch off, the hips sink and all the bend collects in one spot. Keep them awake and the backbend spreads through the whole spine.

Let me know what other poses you would like me to break down 😊

Cobra is a backbend, but it’s also a gentle chest opener. When the lift comes from drawing the chest forward, the whole spine shares the work and the breath has room to move.

A small test next time you’re on your mat (to ensure you’re using cobra as a backbend and not a pushup). Lift your hands a little off the floor for a breath. If you stay lifted, even just a little, your back is doing the work. That’s exactly what you want.

Let me know if you would like me to break down any other poses.

Chaturanga moves fast in a vinyasa class, which is exactly why it’s worth slowing down.

It’s a pose in its own right, not just a way of getting to the floor. The finish line is your shoulders level with your elbows, arms bent to around 90 degrees, body in one long line.

Practising with your knees down takes some of the load off while you learn the arm movement and build strength.

From there, it becomes a bridge into backbends like cobra and upward dog, which is where this series goes next.

If there are any other poses you would like me to break down let me know 😊

The evenings are drawing in and the studio is feeling super cosy 🕯️🍂

November brings the return of ‘Yoga, Nibbles & Nidra’ on Friday 27th November. It will be a beautiful evening of self-care to leave you feeling regulated & rested.

We’re also opening a new 4-week beginners course on Monday 23rd November for anyone who has been wanting to try yoga.

Whether you’re stepping into the studio for the first time or you’re one of our regulars, there’s a mat waiting for you in our cosy little space.

A small note: classes will look a little different the week beginning 16th November while I’m away in Abu Dhabi.

You can book your November classes and events at www.wildfloweryogi.co.uk

19/10/2026

The to-do list will still be there, but I’ll meet it with a regulated nervous system after a walk in the sun.

What do *you* need to make today a great day?
