Thrill Drill Thursday Boat Float

Most of us can hold a pose for a few breaths, but can you keep control while you move through it?

Boat pose with leg extensions asks exactly that, and it shows quickly whether your strength comes from your deep core or from momentum.

This drill trains your abs to stay switched on while your legs change length. That’s the kind of strength that carries over into lifting, running, carrying shopping, and every other time your body moves under load. Expect your belly to burn, your hip flexors to protest, and your breath to give you away the second you start rushing. That wobble isn’t failure. It’s your stabilisers waking up.

Repeat 8–10 slow reps, rest, then do 2–3 rounds.

The key is to move only as far as you can while keeping your back long. Range comes later; control comes first.

Save this for your next core session, and comment “BOAT” once you’ve tried it. Tell me which part burned most: going out or coming back in? 👇

Follow for weekly drills that build strength and mobility you’ll actually feel.

Tuesday Tip - Bend your knees in Downward Dog

Here’s a tip that might feel like cheating, but it’s one of the best things you can do for your practice: bend your knees in Downward Dog.

Most of us chase straight legs and heels on the floor. But if your hamstrings are tight, straight legs pull your pelvis under, round your lower back, and dump the weight into your shoulders. You end up in a shape that looks like Down Dog but doesn’t do its job.

Bending your knees lets your pelvis tip forward so your spine can lengthen properly. That’s where the real benefit is: a long back, open shoulders, and strong arms supporting you.

Try it next time you’re on the mat:

Come into Downward Dog and bend your knees generously, even lifting your heels high
Press the floor away with your hands and send your sit bones up and back
Feel your spine lengthen from your hands all the way to your tailbone
Keep that long spine and slowly straighten one leg, then the other, only as far as your back stays long
Breathe here for 5 slow breaths

You should feel the stretch move out of your lower back and into your hamstrings and shoulders. That’s how you know it’s working.

Straight legs will come with time. A long spine comes first.

Save this for your next practice, and tell me in the comments: are you a bent knee or straight leg Down Dog person? 👇

Thrill Drill Thursday - Can you twist without using your hands? Your body might surprise you.

Sometimes, it's not about stretching further. It's about learning to move with more control, stability and freedom.

This handless low lunge twist is a little challenge with a lot going on.

Mobility — explore rotation through your spine and movement through your hips.

Strength & balance — taking your hands away means your body has to work harder to find stability and control. See the wobble.

Body awareness — slow the movement down, breathe and notice where you feel restricted, and where you find more space.

You don't need to force a deeper twist or make the movement look perfect. Work within your comfortable range and let the progress come with practice.

Think of it as a few minutes invested in moving better, feeling stronger and reconnecting with your body.

Fancy giving it a try? Save this drill for your next movement break and follow Trinity Tree Yoga for more bite-sized yoga drills to build strength and mobility into everyday life.

What if you gave yourself permission to slow down?

Life can be busy. Work, family, commitments, endless to-do lists… and sometimes your body just needs you to stop.

Introducing a new Yin Yoga class.

Yin is a slower, deeply restorative style of yoga where we hold gentle poses for longer, allowing the body time to soften, release and let go.

No rushing.
No complicated sequences.
No need to be super flexible.

Just time to breathe, stretch and reconnect with your body.

Yin can help you:
Release tension held in the hips, back and shoulders
Improve flexibility and joint mobility
Calm a busy mind
Encourage relaxation and better sleep
Give your body the recovery time it deserves

Think of it as an hour for you — a chance to put the phone down, leave the day's stresses at the door and simply be.

Whether you're completely new to yoga or already have a regular practice, you're very welcome.

🧘‍♀️ New Yin Yoga class – spaces are limited

If your body has been asking you to slow down, perhaps this is your sign.

Thrill Drill Thursday

Your core isn't just your abs. It's the whole system that keeps you steady when life (and your body) tries to pull you off balance. This drill builds exactly that.

Start in a strong forward plank, hands under shoulders, body in one long line from head to heels. From here, lift one leg and kick it up towards the sky, then lower with control. Switch sides and keep the rhythm steady.

Press the floor away so your shoulders stay strong and your upper back stays broad
Draw your belly button in and keep your hips square, with no twisting or sagging as the leg lifts
Quality over speed: slow, controlled kicks will work your core far harder than fast ones

You'll feel your deep core switch on to resist the movement, your glutes fire, and your shoulders build stability, all at once. That's the magic of this one: strength, balance and control in a single drill.

Try 3 rounds of 8–10 kicks per leg, resting 30 sellconds between rounds. Need to scale it back? Drop to your knees for the plank, or simply lift the leg a few inches instead of kicking high.

Every rep is a small promise to your future self. Show up, stay steady, and watch your strength grow

Save this for your next practice
Share in the comments if you're giving it a go and tell me how many rounds you managed!

Thrill drill Thursday
What if your balance could improve your strength AND your mobility?

This yoga drill might look like it’s all about balance… but there’s a lot more happening underneath.

As you move through the drill, you’re asking your joints to move, stabilise and control — while your muscles work to keep you steady.

Mobility – encouraging movement through the joints
Strength – building control and stability through the body
Balance – challenging your body to find and maintain its centre
Body awareness – learning to move with control rather than simply getting from A to B

This drill is about creating a body that can move well, feel strong and stay balanced.

Give this drill a try. Start slowly, focus on your breath and don’t worry if your balance isn't perfect first time.

Save this one to practise later & follow for more simple yoga drills to help you build strength, mobility and confidence in your movement. 🌿

Maybe you don’t need to do more.
Maybe you just need to slow down.

A new Yin Yoga class is coming to Trinity Tree Yoga.

Yin is a little different from the yoga you might be used to. There’s no rushing from one pose to the next. Instead, we settle into supported stretches and stay there for a little longer, giving the body time to soften and release.

It’s a chance to step away from the noise of the week, slow your breathing and give yourself some proper time to switch off.

You might notice your body feels more open afterwards.
You might sleep a little better.
Or you might simply leave feeling like you’ve finally had a moment to yourself.

And you don’t need to be flexible or experienced to come along. Just bring yourself.

✨ A slower practice.
✨ Time to breathe.
✨ Space to reset.

New Yin Yoga class – now taking bookings.

If your body and mind have been asking for a little more rest lately, this could be just what you need.

Come and give Yin a try.
