Creativity should be for everyone. 👊🏼
I am working with Involve Leeds to offer free creative drop-in sessions for the local community in South Leeds 🌸
🖤 I will be here every Friday throughout Oct, Dec, and Feb.
Here are a few pics from Friday, along with my thoughts, beliefs and values that shape the work I do..
Something that’s really important to me, is making space for people to explore creativity, connect with others and experience the wellbeing benefits of making.
Unfortunately, (and it’s no secret) that art and being creative is often reserved for those who can afford it.
Art can feel inaccessible whether that’s because of cost, confidence, or the feeling that art, museums or gallery spaces and scenes aren’t for people with less money.
Being creative should be part of a healthy, fulfilling life.
Scientists are now saying “It’s the forgotten 5th pillar of health”. (Duh! Humans have been involved with creative endeavours since the beginning).
But, what about the people who can’t afford to spend £40-50 to go to a workshop? Which is now a large and ~ever expanding~ demographic in the current cost of living climate 🙃
Creativity shouldn’t be a luxury reserved for a few.
It should be something we all have the opportunity to experience.
It is an important part of our wellbeing, our communities and what makes us human.
You don’t need to be an artist, have experience, or should have to spend lots of money to benefit from being creative.
That’s why I am passionate about being in the community and offering art and creative experiences for everyone.
I enjoy offering commercial workshops, but I love offering community creativity.
I’m grateful to Involve Leeds and BasementArtsPro (Bruce Davies) for the opportunity to share some creative time in Hunslet, and I’m looking forward to developing more opportunities for people to access creativity in different ways.
Peace out ✌🏼
