MOVE BETTER. FEEL BETTER. 🔓

Feeling stiff, restricted or struggling to move comfortably after an injury?

Assisted stretching and joint mobilisations/articulations can help improve how you move. 💪

How can they help?
• Improve ROM: Help you access greater joint movement and flexibility when mobility is restricted.
• Reduce stiffness: May help ease discomfort and make movement feel more comfortable.
• Support injury recovery: Gradually restore movement following injury, alongside appropriate rehabilitation.
• Optimise movement: Help address mobility restrictions that may influence movement patterns and exercise technique.

Why combine them?
Assisted stretching targets muscle-tendon flexibility, while joint mobilisations and articulations focus on joint movement and mobility.

The goal? To help you move with greater confidence, comfort and control.

Better mobility is a tool, not the whole solution. Combining hands-on treatment with strength, movement and progressive loading helps build lasting results.

🛠️ IASTM: How can it help with injury recovery?

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) uses specialised tools to apply controlled pressure to soft tissues during manual therapy sessions.

🏃‍♂️ How can it help with injuries?

🔹 Pain modulation: May help reduce pain sensitivity, making movement and rehabilitation more comfortable.

🔹 Improve range of motion: Can help improve short-term flexibility and joint range of motion when combined with appropriate treatment.

🔹 Support rehabilitation: May be useful alongside targeted strengthening, mobility exercises and progressive loading when managing muscle, tendon and other soft-tissue injuries.

🔹 Address movement restrictions: Provides a targeted approach to treating symptomatic soft tissues as part of an individualised assessment and treatment plan.

📚 What does the evidence say? Research suggests IASTM may offer short-term improvements in pain and range of motion, but evidence for its effectiveness is mixed, particularly for long-term recovery and tissue healing.

The key takeaway: IASTM is a tool, not a cure. The best results come from combining hands-on treatment with exercise-based rehabilitation and a progressive return to activity. 💪

🏃‍♂️ YOUR BODY NEEDS AN MOT TOO! 🔧💪

🔍 What does an MOT session involve?

✅ Assessment & special tests – Identify potential problem areas, assess injured tissues and guide appropriate treatment.

💆‍♂️ Deep tissue & sports massage – Help manage muscle tension, soreness and recovery.

🛠️ IASTM & fire cupping – Complementary techniques that may help with short-term pain relief and movement.

📍 Acupuncture – Can help manage certain types of musculoskeletal pain.

💥 Spinal manipulation & joint articulations – May improve pain, mobility and confidence with movement.

🧘‍♂️ Assisted stretching – Help maintain flexibility and improve your available range of motion.

🔥 WHY DOES IT MATTER?

The goal isn’t just to treat pain — it’s to help you move better, train smarter and stay active.

Combining hands-on treatment with movement assessment, strength work and tailored advice can help you address contributing factors, manage training loads and reduce your risk of future injuries.

⚠️ No treatment can guarantee injury prevention, but taking a proactive approach to your physical health can make a real difference.

Whether you’re an athlete, gym-goer, runner or simply want to move without restriction, invest in your body before a small problem becomes a bigger setback!

🧠 CERVICAL MANIPULATION — DOES IT ACTUALLY HELP?

Neck pain can affect more than just the neck; it can contribute to reduced movement, stiffness, headaches and discomfort extending into the upper back.

🔹 What does manipulation do?
A controlled, high-velocity movement of a spinal joint can help reduce pain sensitivity, improve movement and make it easier to restore normal function.

🔹 What does the research say?
Research suggests cervical manipulation can produce short-term improvements in pain, neck disability and range of motion in people with neck pain. However, the evidence quality varies, and manipulation isn’t necessarily superior to other manual therapy approaches. This is why we complement it with other soft tissue techniques‼️

🔹 The key is the bigger picture 👇
Manipulation tends to be most useful when combined with exercise, mobility work and rehabilitation, rather than being used as a standalone treatment.

🎯 The goal isn’t simply to “click” the neck, it’s to help reduce symptoms and improve movement so the patient can get back to doing what they enjoy.

⚠️ Cervical manipulation isn’t appropriate for everyone. A thorough assessment and screening for contraindications and vascular risk factors should always come first

🧠 NECK PAIN? IT’S NOT ALWAYS JUST THE NECK.

Soft tissue manual therapy can help reduce muscle tension and improve movement around the neck, shoulders, upper back and jaw.

💆‍♂️ How can it help?

🔹 Reduces muscle tension – targeting tight muscles around the cervical spine, upper traps and suboccipitals can help ease feelings of stiffness and tension.

🔹 Improves neck function – reducing muscular restriction can make rotation, flexion and extension feel easier, helping restore comfortable movement. ↔️

🔹 May help tension headaches – tension around the suboccipital and upper cervical muscles can contribute to headache symptoms, so addressing these areas may provide relief. 🧠

🔹 Upper back connection – the neck and thoracic spine work together. Restrictions and increased muscle tone through the upper back can influence how the neck moves. 🦴

🔹 Jaw connection – the cervical spine and TMJ are closely linked through muscles and movement patterns. Jaw tension can therefore contribute to neck and facial tension. 😬

👉 The goal isn’t simply to “massage the pain away”. Manual therapy can be used alongside exercise, mobility work and strengthening to help restore movement, reduce sensitivity and improve function.

💡 Think beyond the painful area — assess the whole movement system

PNF STRETCHING FOR THE GROIN 🦵

PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) combines a gentle stretch with an isometric muscle contraction to help improve flexibility and range of movement.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The patient is taken into a comfortable groin stretch, then gently contracts the adductors against resistance for a few seconds. After relaxing, the leg can often move slightly further into the stretch.

This may work through changes in nervous system regulation and reduced stretch discomfort, allowing greater movement tolerance.

HOW CAN IT HELP?

✅ Improve hip range of motion
✅ Increase tolerance to stretching
✅ Reduce movement restrictions
✅ Support rehabilitation and return to sport

PNF can be particularly useful when combined with strengthening and active mobility exercises to maintain the newly gained range.

🏃‍♂️ BALLISTIC STRETCHING — WHAT IS IT?

Ballistic stretching uses controlled, bouncing or dynamic movements to move a joint repeatedly towards the end of its available range.

Unlike static stretching, you don’t hold the stretch! You use movement and momentum to challenge your range of motion.

🧠 THE SCIENCE:
Research suggests ballistic stretching can produce short-term increases in range of motion, while repeated exposure may help improve tolerance to end-range movement and flexibility.

It can be particularly useful when preparing for activities that involve fast, explosive movements — when performed appropriately.

⚡ But technique matters:
The movement should be controlled and progressive, rather than aggressive or forced. The goal is to challenge your range — not overload it.

Move → Adapt → Improve your range.

🦵 WHY IS HAMSTRING FLEXIBILITY IMPORTANT?

Good hamstring flexibility allows greater hip and knee range of motion, helping you move efficiently during activities such as running, lifting and sport.

Research shows that stretching can produce meaningful improvements in hamstring flexibility and ROM — particularly when performed consistently.

🔹 PNF stretching — uses muscle contraction followed by stretching and can produce an immediate increase in hamstring ROM.

🔹 Mobilisations — controlled movement through your available range can help improve ROM and reduce the feeling of restriction during a session.

🔹 Ballistic/dynamic stretching — higher-velocity movements can also produce acute improvements in flexibility and ROM.

💡 The goal isn’t simply to “stretch the muscle” — it’s to improve your ability to comfortably and safely access a greater range of movement.

🦶 Soft Tissue Therapy for Your Feet

Our feet take a huge amount of stress every day, so keeping the muscles and soft tissues mobile can be an important part of maintenance, recovery and injury prevention.

Soft tissue manual therapy can help to:
• Reduce feelings of tightness and tension in the foot
• Improve local tissue mobility and flexibility
• Relieve areas of muscular soreness and discomfort
• Support movement and mobility through the foot and ankle
• Help address tension that may be contributing to symptoms from the calf into the foot

For people who regularly train, spend long periods standing, or experience recurring foot and lower-leg tightness, incorporating soft tissue work can help maintain healthy movement and reduce the build-up of tension.

Healthy feet = better movement from the ground up. 👣
