Where you feel shoulder pain is rarely where it started.

The shoulder sits last in a chain. The neck refers pain into it. The mid back stiffens and takes rotation away from it. The shoulder blade loses its rhythm across the ribs.

By the time the rotator cuff is complaining, it has been compensating for something else for a while.

Work on the shoulder alone and it eases, then returns. Work on the whole chain and it tends to stay settled.

Ten steps at a time is no way to get through a day.

Acute pain shrinks life down to the next few steps, and sleep and standing go with it. Being seen as soon as possible matters: the sooner the cause can be found, the sooner recovery starts.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this.

The eight glasses a day rule is not based on much at all.
It traces back to a 1945 recommendation that included the water already in food, and the second half got dropped somewhere along the way.
Bodyweight in kilograms times 30 to 35ml is closer, adjusted for how active you are and how warm it is.
Under-drinking is common. Over-drinking is real, and more likely than people think in anyone chasing a target. Your urine colour tells you most of what you need to know.

Pain that keeps returning is not bad luck. It is information.
When the same area flares again and again, something upstream has usually gone unaddressed: a movement pattern, a missing piece of strength, or something in the week that quietly keeps reloading it.
Calming things down feels like the finish, because the pain has gone. It is actually the first third. Restoring the movement and rebuilding the capacity is what decides whether it stays gone.
That is why treatment that ends the moment you feel better so often does not hold.

Sitting up straight is not the fix, and it never was.

Most of what gets blamed on bad posture is really the cost of holding any posture too long. The body is built to change position, not to hold a good one.

So the answer is rarely a straighter back. It is moving more often, and having enough strength and range that staying upright stops being work.

If you have been told to correct your posture and it has not helped, that is why.

After being less present on here for a while, SPORTS CLINICAL is back with you and carrying our new look. Nothing about the practice has changed. Same clinic in Bassingham, same treatment rooms, same team, same developing way of working, same website address.
What has changed is how our new posts look.
We continue to offer the full variety of modalities and treatments to look after you 'Wholebody' and not merely treating the pain and symptoms but finding the cause.
We will be posting properly from here again, with what we hope you find useful, informative and thought provoking.

It's been a while since we've posted but just feel so proud of some of our clients we have been looking after!
The best part about looking after our athlete clients are seeing them perform to their best. Some of whom have come back from tough injuries the last year .
Newark ACs men's team came 5th place in the National XC which is a huge achievement and a brilliant 21st place for Trish in the ladies!

We've been a little quiet on here as both of us have been extremely busy with clients (which has been brilliant!!)

We just wanted to say thank you so much to all our regular and loyal clients for keeping us so busy and all our new ones for being patient when we've not been able to get you in straight away!

Hoping to get some time to post some useful content soon but in the meantime keep moving, eating well, hydrating and getting in that all important sleep! 💪
