Hey everyone, we have had a few messages asking for the contact details of Alex, the speech and language therapist who came in to our West Derby coffee morning. Now as most of you know I'm not very technical so couldn't work out how to share the page, so here is a lovely screen shot instead ❤️

NEW TIME FOR DOVEDALE LEGO CLUB

After speaking with some of our parents, we realised that our session starting at the same time as other after-school clubs were finishing meant the school entrance and playground could be particularly busy.

We know that a busy entrance can make arriving at a new activity more difficult, so we’ve listened and made a small change. From after half-term, Dovedale LEGO Club will begin at the earlier time of 4:00pm, when the area should be a little quieter and easier to navigate.

We’re also delighted to announce that the club is now open to children and young people aged 5–16!

LEGO play is far more than just building—it can support:

🌈 Creativity and imagination
🧠 Planning and problem-solving
🙌 Fine-motor skills and coordination
💬 Communication and teamwork
💛 Confidence, patience and perseverance

Our sessions are relaxed and welcoming, with no pressure to socialise or follow a set design. Children can try one of our challenges, create something entirely from their imagination or simply enjoy building alongside others in their own way.

Join us at Dovedale this Wednesday🌞

With half-term almost here, this week’s coffee morning is all about:

Half-Term Without the Pressure: routines, transitions and regulation

Changes in routine can be difficult for neurodivergent children—and for already exhausted parents and carers! We’ll be chatting about:

-Preparing children for changes in routine
-Using simple, flexible plans
-Balancing activities with genuine rest and recovery
- Recognising signs of overwhelm
- Managing different needs within the same family
-Letting go of the pressure to create a “perfect” half-term

There’ll also be a simple family half-term survival plan to take away and use at home.

Our coffee mornings are relaxed, welcoming and suitable for parents and carers of children and young people of all ages. Come along for a cuppa, practical ideas and honest conversation with people who understand—no judgement and no pressure.

🍂☕ A little update about our themed coffee mornings

We’ve been running themed support coffee mornings for a little while now, and we wanted to explain a bit more about how the topics take shape.

Often, the conversation at one coffee morning leads us to explore that topic further at the next. That means we haven’t always been able to share each theme very far in advance. We’re going to do our best to share what’s coming up for the month ahead, so you know what to expect.

This month, we’re also having two relaxed autumn craft sessions while we enjoy a cuppa and a chat:

🍁 Thursday 5 November, 9:30–11am
Clubmoor Children’s Centre

🍁 Monday 16 November, 9:30–11am
Yew Tree Children’s Centre

Everyone is welcome. Come for the crafts, the conversation, or simply a cuppa and a friendly face🧡

LEGO Club is back at Dovedale tonight!

LEGO play is far more than just building—it can help children develop:

Creativity and imagination
Planning and problem-solving skills
Fine-motor skills and coordination
Communication and teamwork
Confidence, patience and perseverance

Our LEGO Club offers a relaxed, welcoming environment where children can build in their own way. They can try one of our challenges, create something completely from their imagination or simply enjoy building alongside other children.

There’s no pressure to socialise or follow a set design, and parents and carers stay throughout—grown-ups are very welcome to join in too! 😊

Half-term is just around the corner (I know, already!), and while it can be a lovely break, a change in routine can also feel tricky for some children and families. 💛

This week at our coffee mornings, we’ll be chatting about and sharing practical ideas for supporting regulation through changes in routine, transitions and unexpected plan changes. You’ll have the chance to pick up helpful strategies to try at home, ask questions and hear what has worked for other families.

There’s no perfect plan and no pressure to share. Just come along for a cuppa, a friendly chat and a chance to connect with other parents and carers who understand. You’re very welcome to drop in, whether you’d like to chat, listen or simply enjoy a bit of support and connection.

We’re finishing the week on a real high! We know it’s only Thursday, but Fridays are our day off, so officially this is the end of our working week 😊

We’ve had two fantastic coffee mornings focused on language and communication: one with Lindsey, our early years language and communication specialist, and one with Alex from Wonderful Words Speech and Language Therapy. We’ve also had three brilliant after-school sessions.

A big thank you to Lindsey and Alex for sharing their knowledge with us, and to everyone who came along and made the week so lovely 💚

We’re wondering what you thought of our Ask the Expert sessions. Have you found them useful? Would you like us to arrange more?

Who would you like us to invite next? Is there a topic you’d love to hear more about, or someone you’d like to ask questions?

Let us know in the comments — your ideas will help us plan what comes next!

Today we’re taking part in a workshop with LCVS looking at the difference that our work makes for families.

“ Theory of Change” sounds a bit technical, but it’s really about asking: what do families need, what support do we offer, and what difference do we hope it makes?

For us, that means families feeling understood, less alone and better connected to the support they need. And it means continuing to listen to you as our families because your experiences matter in shaping what we do.
