Elaine O’Brien: A Steady Journey to Success
From the hills in the area surrounding Marske to the heart of our Slimming World group, Elaine O’Brien has brought warmth, wisdom, and quiet determination to every step of her journey. At 65, Elaine—senior clinical adviser for the North East Ambulance Service—joined us at the end of July last year, and by Christmas, she had reached her target weight, shedding an impressive 2 stone.
What makes Elaine’s story so inspiring isn’t just the numbers—it’s her approach. “I was so glad I joined,” she says, “and happy to lose 3 pounds in my first week. I was going on holiday the next week and lost 2½ when I came back.” Her progress continued at a gentle, sustainable pace of 1–2 pounds a week, never driven by pressure, but by consistency and self-kindness.
Elaine’s philosophy is refreshingly balanced: “I didn’t have to give up everything I loved—I still had anything I wanted, just a smaller amount.” That mindset has made her popular in our group, reminding us that success doesn’t have to mean massive sacrifice.
Her active lifestyle—especially taking her dogs out on shoots, which involves plenty of hill walking—has become noticeably easier. “It’s much easier now,” she shares, “and I don’t get so out of breath. My legs and feet don’t ache.”
Elaine’s endorsement of Slimming World is heartfelt and inclusive: “I can really recommend Slimming World whether you have half a stone or 10 stone to lose. It seems to suit everyone in our group.”
What a 🌟 you are Elaine!
