My morning starts with a little green goodness 🥥🌿☀️

Coconut water for hydration and potassium, spinach for folate and vitamin K, and vitamin D3 to support bone health, muscle function and immunity.

A simple routine to start my day feeling nourished 💚

🎾 Training done! Now it’s time to refuel! 💪

This is me carb-loading after training to replenish my glycogen stores and adding protein to support muscle repair, recovery and growth.

🍚 Carbs restore the energy used on court.
💪 Protein helps repair and build muscles.

Remember, training is only part of the equation. How you fuel afterwards matters just as much!

Fuel to Grow. Fuel to Perform. 🎾🔥

🎾 NO FUEL, NO ENERGY! A LESSON LEARNT ON COURT 💪

Yesterday, during my tennis championship match, I experienced firsthand just how important nutrition is for performance.

The pressure and nerves made it difficult for me to eat before the match. My stomach simply couldn’t tolerate much food, so I stepped onto the court without enough carbohydrates to fuel my body.

And I paid the price! 😩

⚡ I felt completely flat, with no energy.

🦵 Then came the cramps. My legs became so painful that I could barely move.

💧 I drank water, pushed through and somehow managed to keep playing.

As a nutritional therapist, I know the science behind sports nutrition, but yesterday was a powerful reminder that knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things!

🎾 MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAY?

Carbohydrates are not the enemy. They are essential fuel for tennis, especially during long, demanding matches.

✅ Fuel properly with carbohydrates in the 24 hours leading up to competition.

✅ Don’t leave your pre-match nutrition until the last minute.

✅ If nerves affect your appetite, try easily digestible foods or carbohydrate drinks.

✅ Have a hydration and electrolyte strategy, especially when sweating heavily.

You can train hard, prepare mentally and have the best technique, but without enough fuel, your performance can suffer.

Yesterday reminded me why I am so passionate about educating junior athletes and parents about sports nutrition.

Fuel your body before you expect it to perform! 🎾🔥

Parents: Know the signs of RED-S

RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) happens when a young athlete isn’t getting enough energy from food to support training, growth and normal body functions.

Signs to watch for:
• Constant tiredness
• Frequent injuries or stress fractures
• Poor recovery or declining performance
• Mood changes or difficulty concentrating
• Irregular or missed periods in girls
• Frequent illness
• Changes in growth or development

⚠️ RED-S isn’t just about being underweight — an athlete can look healthy and still be under-fuelled.

Early recognition matters. Young athletes need enough fuel to perform AND grow. 🎾💪

Junior Athlete + GCSEs: How to Revise When You’re Training

Balancing GCSE revision with training, matches and recovery isn’t easy — but the answer isn’t always more studying. It’s about making the time you have count.

Try these simple strategies:

⏱️ Revise in focused blocks — 25–40 minutes of focused work can be more productive than hours of distracted studying.

📅 Plan around training — use your freshest hours for the subjects that require the most concentration.

📝 Use active recall — test yourself rather than simply rereading your notes.

😴 Protect your sleep — sleep supports memory, learning AND athletic recovery.

🥗 Fuel your brain and your body — regular meals, carbohydrates, protein and hydration matter during both training and exam season.

📵 Remove distractions — phone away, timer on, focus.

You don’t have to choose between being a committed athlete and doing well academically. Structure, recovery and consistency matter in both. 🎾📚

Save this for GCSE revision season & share it with a junior athlete who needs it.

GCSEs + Tennis: Can junior athletes really balance both?

For competitive junior players, GCSE years can be challenging. Training, tournaments, travel, recovery — and then there’s schoolwork.

But it doesn’t always have to be tennis OR education.

The key is learning how to manage the demands of both: planning ahead, protecting sleep and recovery, communicating with coaches and teachers, and recognising when the workload needs adjusting.

As parents, we also need to remember that developing a young athlete isn’t only about rankings and results. Education, wellbeing and long-term development matter too.

🎾 How is your junior balancing GCSEs with competitive tennis?
