What does the ozone layer have to do with hyperbaric oxygen therapy? It starts with understanding oxygen. 🌍🫧
The ozone layer contains ozone (O₃), a gas made of three oxygen atoms that helps protect us from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation.
The oxygen we breathe is O₂ — and this is the form used in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). Although both contain oxygen atoms, they have very different roles.
During HBOT, you breathe pure oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. The increased pressure allows more oxygen to dissolve into your blood and reach your tissues, supporting healing in certain medical conditions.
Curious about HBOT? Get in touch with our team at Effect Doctors to discuss whether it could be suitable for you.
