A little reminder that Yoga happens on and off the mat. In fact, it's when things start happening off the mat, that something magical happens. It's the moment we pause before a reaction or offer an act of kindness towards ourselves and others.

Yoga is so many things beyond a physical practice, including Seva, which can be translated as selfless service. Actions for others, without gain. Is anything truly without gain though?

We could argue that donating blood gives me the good feeling of helping (and free biscuits). Not to mention the pride I felt when I received a card for reaching five donations. All of this is something in return.

Maybe it's about being mindful of our motives when offering a kind gesture, making sure there are no expectations of something in return. When we do get something back, it's just a nice and unexpected addition to doing the actual thing.

I can't urge people enough to give blood. Stocks are low and it literally saves lives. Check out the NHS Blood Donation and your nearest donation site.

For Lewisham locals, I go to St Lawrence's in Catford but there are other sites around London.

I like to create a welcoming space for everybody and every body and my Friday morning class at Spin, Lewisham, is no exception.

Time of day and can really impact how we approach movement and this class is designed to help you kickstart your day and weekend. Slow doesn't necessarily mean easy, you will get a juicy practice, with options that meet your body's needs but you will also get moments to pause.

If you are in the Hither Green, Lee or the surrounding areas of Lewisham, why not come check my classes out. https://bookwhen.com/emharrisyoga

Here is what a local student had to say...'The class is friendly, welcoming and there is always an option to challenge yourself or adapt, depending on your mood that day.

I love a juicy yoga practice on the mat but that isn’t always accessible to everybody, at all times of life.

This may be as we get older, after pregnancy or if we have had an injury or illness. You might even be physically fit but work at a desk and would really benefit by adding some movement into your day. You might already have a good exercise routine but you would like to work on your flexibility and mobility a bit more. This is where the chair really shines.

I see people come to a chair yoga practice for so many reasons. The chair allows the individual to work on strength and mobility in a supportive way that suits them. You can dial up or down the volume and simply put, the chair is another prop, much like the bricks, blocks and bolsters. You can use it sitting or standing, you can even add flows, balance work and so much more.

I teach chair yoga classes in the Lewisham area and I regularly hear from students how beneficial they find the classes, whether they are recovering from an injury or whatever reason they are there. It’s important that we don’t limit people but give them options. The chair should offer a student choices on the amount movement they are able to do.

I have the great pleasure of working with Abbie from Piece of Health Community Interest, 60 Up C.I.C and The One Club at St Andrew's in Brockley. Drop me a DM if you want to know more about these classes or chair yoga.
