Got your Tota results and wondering how to talk to your doctor about them?
A little preparation can make the conversation much easier. Our latest guide covers how to explain why you tested, what information to bring with you, useful questions to ask, and how to leave your appointment with a clearer plan.
You don’t need to understand every microorganism in your report or work out the answer yourself. Your results are there to help inform a conversation alongside your symptoms, medical history and previous tests or treatments.

When you’re using your results to make decisions about your health, accuracy matters.

That’s why every Tota test is processed in our UK lab (your sample isn’t shipped overseas for testing) and our lab takes part in independent external quality assessment (EQA) schemes to check the quality of our processes.

Over the last two years, we’ve maintained a 100% score in our assessments.

Because if you’re going to look deeper, you need to be able to trust what you’re looking at.

Tested in the UK. Backed by quality checks. Know your body, totally.

If BV keeps coming back, you’re not alone.

For some women, symptoms return even after treatment, and a routine swab doesn’t always give the full picture of what’s happening in the va**nal microbiome.

There are several reasons researchers think BV can recur, from changes in protective Lactobacillus to BV-associated bacteria persisting in biofilms.

Looking at the wider va**nal microbiome can provide more context around what’s present, and give you and your healthcare provider more information to consider alongside your symptoms and history.

Swipe through to learn more about why BV can be so persistent.

If you’re comparing va**nal microbiome tests, it can be hard to know what you’re actually comparing.

Different tests use different technology, look for different organisms and give you very different levels of detail.

So before choosing one, look beyond the price.

Ask what it tests for. Whether it looks for bacteria, fungi and yeasts. Whether it tells you how much was found. Where your sample is analysed. And, importantly, whether the results will actually make sense when you get them back.

Because more data isn’t always more useful — what matters is getting information you can understand.

At Tota, we use non-targeted DNA sequencing to give you a broader picture of your va**nal microbiome, with results designed to be clear and easy to understand.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our webinar with Bladder Health UK 💛
We had a really insightful conversation about UTI testing, the different testing methods available, and what they can tell us.

A huge thank you to Bladder Health UK for having us, and to everyone who came along and asked such thoughtful questions.

When you’re trying to conceive, it can feel like you’re constantly searching for the next piece of the puzzle.
One area researchers are looking at more closely? The va**nal microbiome.
Emerging research suggests that the balance of bacteria in the va**nal microbiome may be linked with reproductive outcomes, including implantation and IVF success.
It’s not the whole answer. And a healthy microbiome can’t guarantee pregnancy.
But understanding yours could give you another useful piece of information about your body, whether you’re thinking about trying, already trying to conceive or preparing for fertility treatment.
Because sometimes, more answers start with a fuller picture. 💛

An entire ecosystem, hiding in plain sight.

The va**nal microbiome is still far less talked about than the gut microbiome, despite growing research into how it may relate to va**nal, urinary and reproductive health.

So, we’ve gone back to basics.

What is it? What lives there? Why can it change? And is there such a thing as a “healthy” va**nal microbiome?

We answer it all in our latest blog.

Did you know your va**na has its own microbiome?

In just 60 seconds, Dr Nick, our Scientific Director and co-founder, explains what the va**nal microbiome is, why bacteria such as Lactobacillus often play an important role, and why this microscopic community is attracting so much scientific interest.

Researchers are exploring how the va**nal microbiome may relate to recurrent UTIs, bacterial vaginosis, fertility, assisted conception and changes during menopause.

There is no single “perfect” va**nal microbiome, and testing cannot diagnose a condition or predict a health outcome. But it can help you understand which microorganisms are present and their relative abundance.

Watch Nick’s quick explanation, then visit the link in our bio to read our complete guide or explore Tota testing.

The full picture, finally in your hands.
