Hero Cards Emotional Strength for Kids. Made Simple. Hero Cards® - The Ultimate Tool for Raising Resilient Kids. That’s when the idea for Hero Cards was born. Science-based.

Hi there 👋🏼

I’m Dr Emmie - psychologist, mum and founder & creator of Hero Cards. As an adult, working as a psychologist in the NHS, I saw the same patterns in the people I treated - struggles that often began in childhood. Our mission is simple: to give kids practical, proven tools to build emotional strength before they experience inevitable life struggles. Because mental health should be about prevention, not cure. HERO CARDS® help kids understand what they feel - and what to do with it.

Simple. In a box.

Launching soon on Kickstarter in early 2026. Sign up for updates so you’re first to know and can access to preorder discounts.

A thought can feel powerful enough to change how a child feels, behaves and sees (thinks) about a situation.

That does not mean the feeling is wrong. It means there may be more to the story than the first thought suggests.

Helping children notice the difference between a thought and a fact is one way to build emotional strength, gently, over time.

This October, we will be exploring how you can help children become more curious about the stories their minds tell them.

We were thrilled to be one of the finalists at the EntreConf awards 2026 💛

Our first awards ceremony and what a fun night! We ate dinner at Aerospace Bristol sat under the last Concorde to take flight and watched as numerous fantastic businesses across the region were recognised for their work and told their fascinating stories.

We didn’t win, but we were awarded a Highly Commended which was not given in all categories so felt extra special - in recognition of what we are starting out to do at Hero Cards.

I was told as I left the evening that it was a very big deal so we were so happy to receive this recognition. Thank you EntreConf !

We also lost out to a really wowing new company - Naturbeads, who are creating plant based alternatives to plastic to address the shocking presence of microplastics in our bodies and ecosystems.

Well, having been completely awed by them we were very happy for their win - huge congratulations!

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is often talked about as though it's complicated. It really isn't.

It's the idea that what we think and what we do shapes how we feel, and vice versa. Change one and the others often tend to shift with it.

That's the thinking behind every Superpower in the Hero Cards pack. Tools usually taught much later to adults, made simple enough for a child to use at the kitchen table.

Children find it far easier to be brave if they are pretending to be someone else.

Researchers found that children who took on a character stuck with a difficult task for noticeably longer than those who didn't. A little distance can make hard things easier to face.

It's one of the reasons Hero Cards starts with choosing a hero. Children talk about what their hero might be thinking, what they might notice in their body, and the emotions that go along with it long before they talk about themselves.

“It’s okay to feel scared. I’m here with you. Let’s work out what might help.”

“You'll be fine. You're brave.” often comes from love.
But a child may still be wondering: how?

Making room for the feeling gives us somewhere to begin. From there, we can explore the thoughts, body sensations and coping skills connected to it.

As a psychologist and mum of three, I created Hero Cards to make these conversations simpler, with stories, imagination and practical tools children can explore at their own pace.

You don’t need to have all the answers to begin.

Hero Cards has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Pre-Revenue category at the EntreConf Awards!! 🥳

We created Hero Cards to make emotional skills simple, engaging and accessible for children and the grown-ups supporting them.

This is a milestone we’re delighted to celebrate.🎉

Thank you to the Awards team, and to everyone who has supported Hero Cards along the way. We’re grateful to have you here.

“Nobody likes me.”

It is the kind of sentence that can make a parent’s heart drop.

You might want to reassure them immediately. Tell them it is not true. Name every friend they have. Fix the whole thing before tea.

But first, stay with what happened.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) often begins by separating the event from the meaning our minds attach to it.

“They played without me” is what happened.

“Nobody likes me” may be the conclusion their hurt reached afterwards.

You do not need to dismiss the feeling or agree with the conclusion. You can help them hold both.

“That sounds painful. Shall we look at what happened and what your brain decided it meant?”

Save these questions for the next difficult school day.

Our favourite review wasn’t the most glowing one.

But it told us something important.

The child recognised it.

The idea wasn’t completely new to her. She had already come across something similar through counselling.

And that’s exactly the kind of bridge we wanted Hero Cards to create.

Not a replacement for counselling.
Not a brand-new psychology theory.

A way to take useful psychological ideas and make them easier for families to explore together through stories, emotions, Power Stealers and Superpowers.

Something that can live at the kitchen table, not only in a therapy room.

If you already have Hero Cards at home, we’d love to hear how you’ve been using them.

Even two honest sentences can help another parent understand whether they might be right for their family.

Leave a review through the link in bio. 🤍
