Plans for a universal social care service in England could take years to deliver, and cost substantially more than £18 billion a year.
That's a whooping £18 billion!
Social care economist Sir Andrew Dilnot has raised questions about both the timetable and the potential cost, while the government has not yet confirmed how a future system would be funded.
The adult social care review led by Baroness Louise Casey is now expected in summer 2027.
For people already struggling with the cost or availability of care, the bigger question is what happens while longer-term reform is being developed?
What do you think needs to happen first - changing the way care is funded, improving access, or addressing the pressures facing the existing system? We'd love to know your thoughts on this.
