Alex TLC Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity, or Alex TLC, provides invaluable support and information to people affected by leukodystrophies and their families.

Established in 2004, Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC) was founded by a mother whose sons, Alex and Ayden, had both been diagnosed with leukodystrophy. She recognised the severe lack of information and support available to families in her position and wanted to make sure that no one had to face leukodystrophy alone. Leukodystrophies are rare genetic disorders primarily affecting the white matter of the central nervous system (i.e., the brain or spinal cord). They affect males and females of all ages and backgrounds, most notably children. The majority of leukodystrophies are degenerative, causing symptoms such as impaired mobility, vision, speech and hearing, incontinence, inability to swallow and loss of cognitive skills. In many cases, this sadly means a reduced or limited lifespan. There are over 100 known types of leukodystrophy identified to date, including some so rare they only affect one or two individuals.

Delivery of genetic results patient survey closes on 31st October 📑

We are supporting the NHS South East Genomic Medicine Service in their quest to improve the way people receive their genetic results. To do that, we would encourage you to complete this short survey about your personal experience of receiving your genetic results 🧬

They want to hear the positive, the challenging and everything in-between. The more feedback they get, the more improvements they can make 💙

The therapy, NEZGLYAL, is the first approved pharmacological treatment for cALD in the European Union (EU) with approval based on results from the Phase 2/3 NEXUS1 study and additional real-world evidence from compassionate use programmes

The first European launch is expected in Germany by the end of the year, with additional launches in Europe anticipated pending completion of national reimbursement negotiations

Leriglitazone is due to be assessed by NICE early next year and Alex TLC are involved in the process as the patient voice 💬

Please join us in saying a big thank you to Cranmore Integrated Primary and Nursery School for raising an incredible £547 with their Wear it Blue day in September 💙

Gráinne, who kindly organised the day, shared why they chose to get involved:

"We decided to run a ‘Wear it Blue’ Day in Cranmore Integrated Primary and Nursery School to raise awareness of the leukodystrophy condition because one of our dear friends and his family are dealing with a recent diagnosis. We have seen a tiny bit of the change it has made to their lives and wanted to do what we could to support them by raising awareness."

A huge thank you to Gráinne, pupils, staff and everyone who supported the day. We’re so grateful for your support in raising both funds and awareness! 💙
