WHY CORNEOTHERAPY?

On a windy day on holiday, I finally got to make a dent in my new skin bible Donna Glazer, so it felt like the perfect time to talk about why Corneotherapy?

I’ve worked with Corneotherapy for over 15 years and, for me, it’s the only approach that has ever truly made sense.

And trust me, before discovering it, I had done it ALL to my own skin. “Medical grade” skincare, endless exfoliation, peels, resurfacing lasers, abrasive treatments… constantly chasing that quick fix.

I’d get the temporary result, my skin would flare again, I’d reach for the next product or treatment… rinse and repeat. Over time, my skin became stripped, dull and inflamed because I was constantly treating what I could see rather than questioning why my skin was behaving that way in the first place.

Corneotherapy completely changed that.

It’s about working with the skin’s anatomy and physiology, not against it. Skin is an incredibly intelligent, adaptive organ and sometimes, in our constant attempts to “fix” it, we actually get in its way. Corneotherapy focuses on preserving and supporting the epidermal barrier and creating the right environment for skin to function as nature intended.

And this isn’t just philosophy. It’s grounded in skin science.

My holiday skincare routine ☀️

I’m currently using just 3 products on my skin (plus SPF in the day), an eye product, cleanser and a body moisturiser. No 10 step routine and no throwing every active possible at my skin. Just carefully selected ingredients based on what my skin actually needs right now.

One of the things I love most about my skincare is being able to tweak it depending on where I’m putting my skin. Our environment matters SO much when it comes to what ingredients our skin needs at any given time.

Heat, humidity, sun exposure, air conditioning, central heating, cold weather, travel, stress and hormonal changes can all influence our skin and its epidermal barrier function.

Just like our clothes, our skin needs a seasonal wardrobe too!

What I use through summer or on holiday won’t be what I use through the winter months. As the seasons change, I’ll adjust my serum blend, swap my moisturiser and tweak my home care accordingly.

And this is exactly what I do with my clients.

Skin isn’t static. Our lives change, our hormones change, our environments change and our skin changes with them. Having the scope with Dermaviduals to continually adjust ingredients and actives means we can give the skin what it needs, when it needs it, while continuing to support structural integrity and healthy epidermal barrier function.

My pool & beach day essentials ☀️🌊

I know I’m a little late in the year with this one 😂 but I know lots of you still have September holidays planned, or maybe some winter sun coming up, so I thought it was still worth sharing!

For a pool or beach day I keep it super simple. Good quality, high protection products with the least amount of unnecessary crap in them.

I reapply every couple of hours and try to keep my face shaded as much as possible, usually under an umbrella and with a wide brim hat. Admittedly I’m not quite as meticulous with my body because it’s definitely harder, but I still try to reapply as regularly as I can.

This isn’t my full holiday skincare routine, I’ll share that separately, but for days in the sun it’s all about high protection, barrier friendly formulations and keeping things simple. ☀️🤍

One of my more controversial skin opinions… I don’t recommend exfoliating acids as part of your everyday home care.

I’m talking about AHAs and BHAs such as glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid.

My approach to skin is less about continually removing what we can see on the surface and much more about understanding why it’s behaving that way in the first place.

If you’re relying on acids just for your skin to look or feel okay, I’m your girl 🙋🏼‍♀️

A little reminder of what REAL SKIN looks like. Even A list celebrities, with all the money in the world, have texture, pores and the occasional bad skin day.

The pursuit of “glass skin” is one of the most damaging trends for the skins epidermal barrier because it encourages people to chase something that doesn’t exist. Real skin has texture. Real skin has pores.

The trend popularised lengthy, multi step routines promising flawless, poreless skin. But overworking your skin always catches up with you. The result? Barrier impairment, perioral dermatitis, breakouts, sensitivity and inflammation. 🔥

Now I’m seeing “glass skin” treatments combining ablative lasers, microneedling, hydradermabrasion, dermaplaning and peels, sometimes all in one session 🤯

That bright red, shiny skin flooding your feed isn’t healthy. It’s inflamed, vulnerable and coated in oil to exaggerate the shine under ring lights. That’s not glow. It’s a skin barrier in distress.
