General Naturopathic Council The aim of the General Naturopathic Council is to regulate and support naturopathic practitioners in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the public.

As more and more people choose natural healthcare practitioners alongside conventional medical treatments, the public and medical professions are becoming more interested in the safe practice and efficacy of complementary therapies. In conjunction with Skills for Health, the GNC has recently developed National Occupational Standards for Naturopaths. The GNC is currently discussing voluntary self-regulation; this is an ongoing process and the site will be updated with the latest developments and achievements.

Nutrition for healthy thyroid function
Oct 6, 2026 10:00 AM

In the UK, diagnosed hypothyroidism affects 1–2% of the population (NICE 2024) – with an even greater prevalence in women and older people – and is a widespread cause of debilitating symptoms like fatigue, hair loss, unwanted weight gain, depression, constipation, loss of libido and muscle and joint pain.

This webinar will examine how an underactive thyroid is diagnosed (including ‘subclinical’ cases) and how to identify possible contributory factors in individual clients.
We’ll then summarise the evidence for specific nutrition and lifestyle interventions to support healthy thyroid function, taking into account adjustments for clients taking levothyroxine.

Fatty Acids: What to Eat, What Not to Eat — That Is the Question

With so much information surrounding dietary fats and fatty acid supplementation, knowing what to eat — and what not to eat — can be a complex question.

In this upcoming AONM webinar, Dr Patricia Kane, PhD, drawing upon 53 years of experience in scientific lipid research and clinical integrative, environmental and orthomolecular medicine, will explore the practical application of dietary and supplemental lipid intake.
The quality and quantity of lipids within the membrane leaflets surrounding our cells directly influence neurocognitive performance, hormonal balance, gene expression, mitochondrial respiration, toxin clearance, organ function, cellular restoration and longevity.

Through an examination of the medical literature, Dr Kane will bring clarity to the essential clinical question: What should we eat — and what should we not eat?

You'll also discover:
• The importance of the quality and quantity of lipids within our cell membranes
• How lipids influence neurocognitive performance, hormonal balance and gene expression
• Their relationship with mitochondrial respiration, toxin clearance, organ function and cellular restoration
• The practical application of dietary and supplemental lipid intake
• How Membrane Precision Medicine can help bring greater clarity to fatty acid intake

Whether you're a healthcare practitioner looking to deepen your understanding of fatty acids, or you're interested in the research surrounding dietary and supplemental lipid intake, this webinar offers an opportunity to explore the medical literature and its practical clinical application.

Join Head of Nutrition, Chris Newbold, and guest speakers on Cytoplan's latest ‘roadshow’ of in-depth, in-person FREE CPD events.

Starting this autumn, we're looking at GLP-1 medications and gut health. As always, we’ll take a deep dive into the science, make the complex easily ‘digestible’, and keep it real, with practical clinical applications.

Is the gut truly the touchstone for all health and your starting point for any client? Chris Newbold draws together multiple theories to show how the gut transcends host biology and functions more like a complex ‘internal ecosystem’.
Taking a dynamic, multisystem approach, Chris explores how gut systems integrate with each other and with wider body systems, focusing on enzyme and bile function, motility, the microbiome, and gut permeability, and detailing clinical strategies for key conditions, including reflux, IBS, SIBO, constipation, and diarrhoea.

Each attendee receives presentation notes, an exclusive discount, a free product and 4 hours of CPD with NNA.

Places are limited, so book now to secure yours.

Bioactive Lipids: Expanding Horizons of Membrane Medicine

The BSEM's November 2026 event reflects where the field of Bioactive Lipids has arrived today. The lipid story that BSEM members were tracing clinically through dietary fatty acids, red-cell lipid analysis at the Johns Hopkins Peroxisomal Diseases Laboratory, membrane structure and function, and inflammatory disease two decades ago has converged on mechanisms that are now active frontiers in biomedical research: the specialised pro-resolving mediators, the structural and signalling roles of DHA within the brain and nervous system, the influence of membrane phospholipid composition on cellular communication and metabolic function, the consequences of lipid depletion, and the evolutionary mismatch between modern diets and our lipid biochemistry.

What once appeared to be disparate observations are increasingly being unified through advances in lipidomics, neuroscience, immunology, and systems biology.
We now understand that lipids function not only as structural components and energy substrates, but also as dynamic signalling molecules that influence inflammation, immune regulation, mitochondrial function, neuroprotection, cellular resilience, and tissue repair.

These are no longer questions at the margins. They sit at the intersection of neuroscience, immunology, metabolic medicine, photobiology and clinical nutrition, and they have direct, practical implications for how we treat patients with inflammatory, neurological, metabolic, and chronic degenerative disease.

Confirmed Speakers
- Professor Michael Crawford: DHA, Vision and Neuronal Function - Professor Charles Serhan: Resolvins and Inflammatory Disease - Professor Dipak Ramji: DGLA and Cardiovascular Disease
- Dr Irina Gruschina: Short-chain Fatty Acids and the Microbiota
- Dr Patricia Kane PhD: Membrane Medicine in Neurological Disease
- Dr Damien Downing: Cardiolipin and the Mitochondria
- Dr Andreas Grossgold: Lipids, Infection and Epigenetic Clearance

With a fabulous lunch (gluten-free, dairy-free, low-carb, paleo, vegetarian and vegan options available)

+ Saturday, November 7th - Exclusive Clinical Workshop - by invitation only.
The Workshop will provide medical practitioners with practical, case-based approaches to lipid medicine and integrative therapeutics, including applications in neurology, cardiovascular disease, inflammation and cancer care.
