Hughes APS Trust The Hughes APS Trust (formerly GHIC) was founded by expert doctors and researchers to educate, raise awareness, and fund vital research into Hughes Syndrome.

We rely entirely on donations to continue our life-changing work. Thank you for your support! We are proud to now be the Hughes APS Trust (formerly Graham Hughes International Charity, GHIC). Our new name marks an exciting new chapter — but our mission stays the same. We work to raise awareness, educate patients, doctors, and the wider public, and fund vital research to improve diagnosis, treatment, and care for people living with Hughes Syndrome (APS). Hughes Syndrome (APS) is a serious autoimmune disorder that can cause blood clots, pregnancy loss, strokes, and other life-threatening complications. Too often, it goes undiagnosed or misunderstood. Together, we can change that. We rely 100% on donations to power everything we do. Every gift you make helps to fund education, raise life-saving awareness, and drive research that brings hope to people with APS around the world. Please donate today and be part of building a better future for everyone affected by APS. Thank you for standing with us!

Meet Jodie and Nicki, the mother-and-daughter team behind our Fundraising Ball

Jodie and her mum, Nicki, both live with APS and are generously volunteering their time to organise the Hughes APS Trust Fundraising Ball on the 14th November.

They are pictured here at a previous fundraising ball they organised in support of LUPUS UK. Following the success of that event, they are now bringing their experience, enthusiasm and hard work to create a very special evening for Hughes APS Trust.

When Jodie was just 17 and sitting her A-level exams, she became critically unwell. After six months of repeated hospital admissions involving multiple organs, an echocardiogram revealed a large mass filling the right atrium of her heart.

Jodie underwent life-saving open-heart surgery. The mass, initially believed to be a benign tumour, was later found to be a blood clot caused by APS.

Jodie now takes warfarin and has regular blood tests as part of managing the condition—an experience that will be familiar to many patients and caregivers in our community.

Continued research is essential to improve and expand the treatment options available to people living with APS.

Motivated by their experiences, Jodie and Nicki hope the ball will raise vital funds to support patients and families, improve awareness and understanding of APS, educate healthcare professionals and encourage research into better treatments.

Swipe through to see how you or someone you know could help, from donating a raffle or auction prize to sponsoring part of the evening.

We know not everyone will be in a position to contribute, but sharing this post with friends, family or local businesses would also make a real difference.

To help please email - [email protected]

Thank you, Jodie, for sharing your story—and thank you to both Jodie and Nicki for everything you are doing for our APS community.

Looking back at our Hughes APS Trust Patient Meeting

In May, patients, families, healthcare professionals and supporters came together for an afternoon of information, shared experiences and connection.

We were delighted to welcome our guest speakers, hear valuable insights into antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and give members of our community the opportunity to ask questions and meet others who understand the realities of living with the condition.

This short video captures some of the highlights from a very special day.

A special thank you to our volunteer filmmaker, Anish, for generously giving his time to create this video for us.

Thank you to everyone who attended in person or joined us online, to our speakers and trustees, and to everyone who helped make the meeting possible.

Events like this are an important part of our work to support patients, reduce isolation, improve understanding of APS and bring our community together.

We aim to make the Patient Meeting an annual event, with a full hybrid setup to provide an inclusive and accessible experience for both in-person and online attendees.

We hope you enjoy looking back with us. Please share the video to help raise awareness of APS. https://www.hughesapstrust.org/news-events/hughes-aps-trust-patient-meeting-2026-highlights/

🩸 APS Awareness Day – 9 June 🩸

Today, on APS Awareness Day, we are raising awareness of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) – a serious autoimmune condition that can cause blood clots, stroke, heart attack, pregnancy complications and other life-changing health issues.

APS remains under-recognised, and many people face delays in diagnosis. By increasing awareness, we can help more people receive the diagnosis, treatment and support they need.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post and starting conversations about APS.

Together, we can improve awareness, support patients, advance research and create change.

What a fantastic day!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Patients' Meeting, whether in person or online. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, meet new members of the APS community, and spend time learning, sharing experiences and supporting one another.

A special thank you to our speakers for their time, expertise and openness, and to St Thomas' Hospital for hosting us. We are also grateful to everyone behind the scenes who helped make the event possible.

Professor Hughes was delighted to see so many people engaged with the charity and its work, and we are excited about what the future holds for the Hughes APS Trust.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to sharing more photos and highlights from the day soon.
