EmployAble CEO Beverley Jacobson and Employment Consultant Jordan Mandell attended Camden Council/Good Work Camden’s Jobs & Skills Event 2026, bringing together employers and jobseekers to create new opportunities and support employment across the London Borough of Camden. 💙

One particularly welcome feature was a dedicated Quiet Hour, allowing neurodivergent and disabled people to attend in a calmer environment before the main event.

Our team met with a range of employers and were delighted by their commitment to social value and inclusion.

Beverley said: “We look forward to continuing these conversations and exploring how we can work together to create more opportunities for autistic people and people with learning disabilities to access meaningful paid employment.”

A big thank you to all we met including Phillip Taylor, manager of the soon-to-open Morrisons Camden store, who has been with the company for 34 years; Raluca Farcasi from Tesco; Muhammad Yusuf Hussain from FGH Security; Dipo Master from Britannia Hampstead Hotel; Dimitrios Gianitsas from Veolia; Hilder Oppong from Caremark Camden; and Sofia from The Wesley.

EmployAble has reached an important milestone – submitting an application to the Charity Commission to become an independent Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

It was just over two years ago that the concept of EmployAble was conceived. It was to be a vehicle to drive employment for autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities who were being excluded from the workforce and for whom there were no appropriate pathways to employment. The challenge was to prove that all autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities who are motivated to work can do so, regardless of the complexity of their needs or the severity of their disability.

The seeds of the idea came from the forward-thinking and aspirational Trustees of the Maurice Hatter Foundation. Once the idea gathered steam, they opened their doors to incubate the enterprise and nurture its development and, over the past 14 months, EmployAble has demonstrated the direct and measurable public benefit it provides to a cohort who face entrenched and disproportionate unemployment. This is evident on three levels:

* To the individuals: Over 40 people placed in sustainable, paid employment; 100% reporting greater happiness and self-esteem; and 85% of whom had been economically inactive for a decade or more.

* To the public purse: In excess of £260,000 in earnings generated, and an estimated £59,000 annual saving in avoided day-service costs – a saving that is likely to recur over candidates' working lives.

* To wider society: More than 1,000 people trained in inclusive workplace practice, and a growing base of employer partners embedding inclusion into their own organisations.

EmployAble CEO Dr Beverley Jacobson said: "EmployAble's transition to an independent CIO will allow our impact to scale sustainably, reducing reliance on philanthropic funding over time while reaching many more people who want to work but currently cannot access the support to do so.

"Whilst we await the Charity Commission's review, we are busily gearing up for the real work to start!"

🎉 PROBATION PASSED!

Please join us in congratulating Ollie, who has successfully completed his probation period and is now a permanent, full-time employee at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in Westminster.

Ollie was EmployAble’s first candidate, after being referred to us by Work Avenue in November 2024. With support from EmployAble, after almost a year of looking for work, he secured a one-year fixed-term role as a Registration Advisor at The Health and Care Professions Council.

When that came to an end, capitalising on his experience of regulatory processes gained in his first job, Ollie found a new position as a Qualifications Administrative Coordinator at ICE, which started in March this year and has now been made permanent.

Ollie said: “I still can’t believe it! I passed my probation period with all positive feedback. I’m now a full-time employee!

"Thank you to EmployAble for everything you do. I will be on hand any time you need me to advise other EmployAble job seekers of the steps to take to get a full-time permanent job in the City of London as a neurodivergent individual.” 💙

đźš« MYTH BUSTED

Myth: Candidates with learning disabilities will take more sick days and leave a role sooner than other employees.

Reality: Actually, the opposite is true. While each individual is different, recent evidence has found that on average employees with learning disabilities take fewer sick days or other absences and stay in their job 3.5 times longer than their co-workers.

What could be more motivating than joining 50 energetic and passionate women for breakfast at this morning's Women in Rec event?

There was an opportunity to hear from industry leaders Jules Shelley, Laura Tressler, Maxine Bligh and Women in Rec founder Jade Haase about leadership, balance and turning points.

Experienced coach Michelle Flynn also introduced her toolkit, providing an opportunity and space for reflection and growth.

At EmployAble, we know how important it is to create opportunities for everyone to grow, develop and fulfil their potential and we look forward to continuing the conversations started this morning.
