The UK Government has published draft proposals that could significantly change who is permitted to perform some high-risk cosmetic procedures in England.
Under the proposals, fillers injected into areas of the body other than the face would be classified as cosmetic surgical procedures and restricted to doctors. Certain other treatments, including deep chemical peels, vampire facials, dermal micro-coring and specified laser procedures, could be limited to defined groups of healthcare professionals.
The proposals also include additional protections for under-18s and stronger enforcement, with potential penalties for breaches.
These are proposed measures, not requirements currently in force. They remain subject to consultation and legislation, so the final scope and requirements are not yet confirmed.
Practitioners should review the draft regulations and follow the consultation as it progresses.
