Could we reduce our risk of Alzheimer's before symptoms even appear?

Our founder, Patrick Holford, believes we can - and he joined Liz Earle Wellbeing to explain why a preventative approach to brain health matters so much.

In the conversation, Patrick discusses how lifestyle, nutrition and targeted supplementation can all play a part in lowering dementia risk, and why it's never too early - or too late - to start making positive changes.

He also shares why learning something new helps keep our brains active, and talks through some of the nutrients he considers foundational for brain health, including vitamin B12, omega-3 and MCT oil.

🧠 Could new EU rules affect the supplements you take?

If you live in Ireland or elsewhere in the EU, you may want to know about an important debate taking place around the future regulation of vitamin and mineral supplements.

EU legislation provides for the introduction of maximum permitted amounts of vitamins and minerals in food supplements. The European Commission has confirmed that work in this area remains on its agenda, although final maximum levels have not yet been set.

The Save Our Supplements campaign in Ireland is concerned that future limits could restrict access to some higher-dose supplements, including nutrients such as vitamin B6, magnesium, vitamin D and zinc. It is calling on people to make their views heard before decisions are made.

At Food for the Brain, we believe decisions about nutrition should be informed by good scientific evidence, including careful consideration of both safety and the potential benefits of achieving an optimal nutrient intake.

This matters particularly when we're talking about nutrients involved in brain health. It is important that any future limits are proportionate, evidence-based and take account of the available science.

More than 30,000 people are reported by the campaign to have already signed its petition. If you'd like to understand the campaign's position and add your voice, you can find out more below.
