Keisho Sensei demonstrates writing Ka pa pa chi 活鱍鱍), a highly celebrated Zen expression from the Rinzai Roku. The phrase is an onomatopoeia that mimics the lively, energetic flipping and splashing sound of a fish jumping out of the water. It translates conceptually as meaning “vibrantly alive,” “bursting with life,” or “fresh and dynamic” - a mind that cannot be pinned down or captured by dogmatic concepts.
We are hosting an exhibition of Keisho Sensei‘s work this weekend at our dojo in London. Starting with a beginner’s calligraphy class tomorrow (Saturday) morning 10-12, then the exhibition will be open for viewing 12-5pm both Saturday and Sunday.
