Could your skin be reacting to something you come into contact with?

If you experience persistent or recurring redness, itching, dryness or a rash, the cause may be allergic contact dermatitis. Everyday products and substances such as cosmetics, skincare products, fragrances, hair products, metals and even ingredients in the workplace can sometimes trigger a reaction.

Patch testing is a specialist investigation used to help identify whether your skin is reacting to a particular allergen. At our Harley Street clinic, Dr Lee can assess your symptoms and, where appropriate, arrange patch testing to help identify potential triggers and guide an individualised treatment and avoidance plan.

If you have a recurring rash and haven't been able to identify the cause, a dermatology consultation may help provide some answers.

Children’s skin can be particularly sensitive, and changes such as persistent rashes, eczema, acne, unusual moles, birthmarks or unexplained itching can be worrying for parents. While many childhood skin conditions are common and easily managed, it can be reassuring to have an experienced specialist assess your child when symptoms persist, change or are affecting their comfort and confidence.

Our Consultant Dermatologist, Dr Maria Bageta, sees paediatric patients and provides specialist assessment and advice for a wide range of childhood skin conditions. With a calm, child-centred approach, she takes the time to understand both the child’s symptoms and the concerns of their parents, helping families understand what is happening and what treatment options may be appropriate.

September is Alopecia Awareness Month

Hair loss can affect anyone, at any age, and it can have a significant impact on confidence and wellbeing.

While some hair shedding is completely normal, persistent or noticeable hair loss can have many different causes — from genetic and hormonal factors to autoimmune conditions, nutritional deficiencies and other medical conditions.

A dermatologist can assess the pattern and cause of hair loss and recommend an appropriate treatment plan tailored to you.

If you’ve noticed increased shedding, thinning hair or areas of hair loss, don’t ignore the signs — early assessment can be helpful.

When should you see a dermatologist?

Sometimes a skin concern is temporary. Sometimes it keeps coming back, changes over time, or simply doesn't seem to respond to what you've tried.
Persistent acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, unexplained rashes, changes in moles and many other skin concerns can benefit from specialist assessment.

At Skin Inspection, our Consultant Dermatologists take the time to understand your concerns, examine your skin and, where appropriate, recommend further investigations or treatment.

You don't need to live with a skin problem you're unsure about.
If you're concerned about your skin, getting the right advice is a good place to start.

When did you last have your skin checked?

We often get used to seeing the same moles and marks on our skin — but changes can be easy to overlook.

A mole that changes in size, shape or colour, or a new or unusual mark on your skin, is worth getting checked.

At Skin Inspection, our Consultant Dermatologists provide specialist skin and mole assessments, using clinical examination and dermoscopy.

If something on your skin has changed, don't ignore it.
Early assessment can provide clarity and reassurance.

🔍 What is Dermoscopy? 🔍

Dermoscopy is a safe, non-invasive technique used by Consultant Dermatologists to examine moles and skin lesions in greater detail. Using a specialised handheld device called a dermatoscope, we can assess structures beneath the surface of the skin that are not visible to the naked eye.

Dermoscopy is completely painless, suitable for all skin types and ages, and is also safe during pregnancy. It plays an important role in the early detection of skin cancer and other skin conditions.
You should consider having your skin checked if you notice:
✔️ A changing mole or lesion
✔️ New or unusual marks on the skin
✔️ Bleeding, itching, or crusting areas
✔️ A lesion that looks different from others
Early assessment provides reassurance and, when needed, allows treatment to begin as early as possible.
