“But you look fine.” If you live with hEDS or HSD, you’ve heard it. Probably this week.

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) can be invisible disabilities. Unstable joints, chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog. Many people also live with POTS or MCAS. Very little of it shows.

Most people who say “you look fine” mean well. It still stings when the people closest to you can’t see what you’re dealing with.

For Invisible Disabilities Week, swipe through to see what might be going on behind the moments people notice.

Save it for the next time you’re asked to explain, or send it to someone who wants to get it.

What’s one thing people don’t see about your day? Tell us in the comments.

The Zebra Club brings together movement, expert support and people who understand hEDS and HSD. Link in bio.

Dysautonomia Awareness Month question for you: what’s in your toolkit?

If you have dysautonomia or POTS, you’ve probably put together your own kit over the years.

Maybe it’s salt and electrolytes, compression socks, a heart rate monitor, a cooling vest for summer, or a recumbent bike.

Many people with hEDS and HSD manage dysautonomia too, so we know this community has answers worth sharing.

What’s the one thing you never leave home without? And what do you wish you’d found sooner? Drop it in the comments. Let’s help each other out!

Save this for later, and send it to a friend who’s still working out what helps.

The Zebra Club is a movement platform for people with hEDS, HSD, and related conditions. Link in bio.

Dysautonomia and hypermobility: dizziness when you stand up isn’t “just anxiety.”

It’s Dysautonomia Awareness Month.

If you have hEDS or HSD, you might know the feeling. Your heart races when you get up from the sofa. You go lightheaded in a hot shower or a long queue at the shops and have to sit down before you faint.

Dysautonomia is common in Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and hypermobility spectrum disorder, but it still gets missed or put down to anxiety.

Exercise helps, but standing workouts can set off symptoms. That’s why The Zebra Club has classes you can do lying down. When you’re ready, you move on to seated and then standing work. The Autonomic Regulation Structured Pathway and the POTS and Flares program take you through it at your own pace.

Missed last week’s post on the autonomic nervous system? It’s on our grid. Next week we’re covering POTS in depth.

Living with hEDS, HSD or POTS and stuck in the boom and bust cycle of overload and flares? Our new Overload & Recovery pathway is now live.

You’ve told us about this pattern again and again. You have a good day, do a bit too much, then crash and spend days recovering before you can start again. After a while, it’s hard to trust your body with movement at all.

This structured pathway helps you:

- spot the early signs of overload before a flare builds
understand why symptoms escalate after activity, stress or travel
- cut out unnecessary effort in everyday movement
rebuild tolerance gradually, without repeatedly going over your limit

You’ll keep moving. The pathway helps your body respond to movement more effectively, so the progress you make lasts.

It may help if you notice fatigue or shakiness after exertion, find it hard to stay consistent with hypermobility, or aren’t sure how to restart after a setback.

You’ll begin with a short self-assessment, so you start from where your body is today.

Find it now on The Zebra Club platform. Link in bio 🦓

Do you get dizzy when you stand up, or feel your heart racing for no clear reason? That could be dysautonomia.

Dysautonomia is when your autonomic nervous system, your body’s autopilot, stops regulating properly.

This Dysautonomia Awareness Month, we’re starting with the basics. The autopilot has an accelerator and a brake:

• Sympathetic nervous system: the accelerator
• Parasympathetic nervous system: the brake, run mostly by the vagus nerve

Dysautonomia, including POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), is especially common in hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD). We’ll cover why in Part 2.

Save this for the next time someone asks what dysautonomia is.

Keeping up with movement when you live with hEDS or HSD is rarely about motivation. It’s about whether a routine can flex with how your body feels on any given day.

As Belinda shared: “Sustainability and being able to cater to my day-to-day movement needs has always been an issue when I have worked with coaches, PT and programs over the years.”

If that sounds familiar, you’re not doing it wrong. Your needs change, and your movement should be able to change with them.

Some days are strength days. Some days are gentle days. Some days are “lie on the floor and call it a win” days. In The Zebra Club, all of them count, and there’s always something built for hypermobile bodies to meet you where you are, alongside whatever other support you have.

Does your chronic pain flare in October? Here are 5 senses you can use to calm your nervous system 🍂

If you live with hEDS or HSD, you might notice more pain and symptoms when October brings colder weather and shorter days. The weather is out of our hands. Small cues of safety for your nervous system aren’t.

That’s the idea behind self-soothing: using your senses on purpose. Swipe for cozy ideas for sight, smell, sound, touch and taste, plus two bonus tips for gentle distraction and movement.

On high-pain days, try stacking a few together. A warm drink, a soft blanket, your comfort show and a gentle class can take the edge off.

Zebra Club members say Movement Meditation of Softness and Post Viral Relief are favorites this time of year. Find them on the platform, link in bio.

Save this for your next flare day, and send it to a fellow zebra who feels the weather in their joints.

Sometimes the right expert, with the right knowledge, can save you months of searching for answers and spending money and time on approaches that simply aren’t right for you.

Our Expert Masterclasses bring trusted clinicians directly to The Zebra Club, so you can ask the questions that matter and leave with clear, practical guidance you can use straight away. As this attendee shared after Lorna Ryan’s Lorna Ryan | Hypermobility & EDS Nutrition Specialist nutrition session, one hour gave her more useful insight than hundreds of pounds spent elsewhere.

That is the value of speaking to people who truly understand the complexities of hypermobility. And we handpick them and bring them to you.

Bookings reopen in November if you’d like to join our next Expert Masterclass.

So many of us with hypermobility (hEDS and HSD) live with digestive issues. That’s why we brought in Lorna Ryan Lorna Ryan | Hypermobility & EDS Nutrition Specialist for our Expert Masterclass Series.

Lorna is a clinical nutrition practitioner, and her session for this exclusive member add-on looked at how your gut is always moving. Breathing, sleep and everyday movement all shape how well it works.

Her advice: observe your own patterns before overhauling your diet.

Which do you think affects your digestion most: breathing, sleep or movement? Tell us in the comments.

Hypermobility pain with hEDS and HSD often builds from small, everyday strains. How you hold your head. How long you stay still. How you sleep and walk.

In Session 3 of the Pain Awareness series for The Zebra Club, physical therapist Dr. Leslie Russek Leslie Russek walked through the physical side of chronic pain.

She explained why forward head posture puts so much strain on your neck, and how posture can cause pain even at rest.

She also shared pillow tricks for better sleep positions, how walking more softly can ease joint strain, and the physical drivers behind pain sensitivity.

Small changes add up. Start with one.

Members can watch all 3 parts, with Q&A, in Expert Insights on The Zebra Club platform. Link in bio.
