Women over 35: your menstrual cycle doesn’t need to become your training programme.

Cycle syncing sounds simple:

Period = train light.
Ovulation = train hard.
Luteal phase = back off.

But women don’t all respond the same way.

Two women can be on the same cycle day. One feels strong and energetic. The other has cramps, poor sleep and low energy.

So why prescribe the same workout?

Your programme needs structure AND flexibility.

If symptoms are affecting you, adjust the dose: reduce the load, sets or intensity.

If you feel good? Train. Progress. Get stronger.

Don’t reduce your training just because an app tells you what phase you’re in.

Instead, track:

• Sleep
• Energy
• Symptoms
• Recovery
• Training performance

Then identify your own patterns.

Female-specific coaching isn’t about putting every woman into the same hormone template.

It’s about adapting the programme to the woman while maintaining consistency and progressive overload.

Your physiology matters. Your individual response matters more.

If you’re 35+ and want training and fat loss built around your body, comment SEASON.

Women over 35: your menstrual cycle doesn’t need to become your training programme.

Cycle syncing has become popular in women’s fitness.

The idea sounds logical:

Period = train light.
Ovulation = train hard.
Luteal phase = back off.

But female physiology isn’t that predictable.

Two women can be on exactly the same day of their cycle and feel completely different.

One feels strong, energetic and ready to train.

The other has cramps, poor sleep, headaches and low energy.

So why would I give them the same training prescription?

I wouldn’t.

Your training should have structure, but the dose should respond to the woman in front of you.

If you normally squat 100 kg but today your symptoms are significant, perhaps we use 90 kg.

Maybe four working sets become three.

Maybe RPE 9 becomes RPE 7.

That isn’t weakness.

That’s intelligent autoregulation.

But there’s another side to this conversation.

Your cycle shouldn’t automatically become a reason to avoid challenging training either.

If you feel good, recover well and your performance is normal, there may be absolutely no reason to reduce your training simply because an app says you’re in a certain phase.

This becomes even more important after 35, when cycles and symptoms can become less predictable.

Instead of obsessing over the calendar, I want you to monitor:

Your sleep.
Your energy.
Your symptoms.
Your recovery.
Your strength and training performance.

Then look for patterns across several months.

Female-specific coaching shouldn’t mean putting every woman into the same hormone template.

It means understanding how your body responds while keeping progressive overload, consistency and long-term progression at the centre of the programme.

Your physiology matters.

But so does the individual woman behind it.

If you’re 35+ and want a training and fat-loss strategy that adapts to your body without using your hormones as an excuse to stop progressing, comment MY SEASON.

Before you cut more food, check the pattern.

Skip breakfast. Grab lunch. Get home starving.
Promise to be stricter tomorrow.

What exactly are you making stricter?

Women over 35 juggling work, family and training need a plan they can repeat.

Start here:

1️⃣ Check your foundations: protein, fruit, vegetables, fibre and water.

2️⃣ Simplify your meals: reliable breakfasts, easy lunches and dinner planned before exhaustion hits.

3️⃣ Review before restricting: check consistency, portions and progress. Change one thing at a time.

A plan that only works on quiet days needs changing.

That’s where Restore starts in my Four Seasons Method.

Comment SEASON and tell me your biggest struggle: meal structure, portions or consistency.

You train every week. So why doesn’t your body reflect the work you put in?

You show up.
You push through the sessions.
You leave the gym exhausted.

Yet your clothes fit the same, your strength has stalled, and you’re questioning whether all this effort is worth it.

You want to look leaner. Build muscle. Feel confident getting dressed.

There’s nothing shallow about that.

But working hard and training effectively aren’t always the same thing.

Before blaming your age or genetics, look at the bigger picture:

• Are your workouts progressing, or are you repeating the same weights and reps?
• Does your nutrition match your goal, or do you alternate between restriction and overeating?
• Are you allowing yourself to recover, or expecting results on five hours of sleep?

You can be committed and still follow an approach that keeps you stuck.

More sweat won’t fix a lack of progression.
Less food isn’t automatically a better strategy.
More sessions won’t replace recovery.

Your physique is shaped by what happens across the whole week, including the hours outside the gym.

That’s the thinking behind my Four Seasons Method: Restore, Build, Accelerate and Stabilise.

Each phase has a purpose. The next step depends on what you need now.

Sometimes that means pushing.
Sometimes it means building a stronger foundation.
And sometimes it means learning to maintain the progress you’ve earned.

Stop measuring your plan by how exhausted it makes you. Start measuring it by the progress you can sustain.

Ready for a clearer approach?

Comment SEASON and I’ll help you identify which phase to focus on first.

Don't Let Discomfort Become Your Normal

We talk about how gradual changes can lead to significant health decline, using the frog in boiling water analogy. I emphasize that small daily decisions matter and encourage acting fast before discomfort becomes your new normal.
