“The start of something deeper, where people have more of a say in their own future.”
Andy Burnham

This is a crucial moment for brain cancer in the UK, and we intend to lead it.

In the last year, Brain Cancer Justice has led from the front. Our petition, signed by 109,000+ supporters, helped secure three debates in Parliament. We’ve met the Minister, hosted an MP drop-in, brought patients, families, clinicians and researchers together, and run a collaborative workshop in Manchester. Hundreds of our members have written directly to Yvette Cooper and their MPs.

We welcome the Government’s commitments, including a national brain cancer clinical lead. We’ve now written to the Health Secretary asking her to guarantee that patients and families are involved from the outset, co-designing the Chalmers review, the national action plan, clinical trials and the lead’s role alongside clinicians, researchers, charities and Government.

This is the chance to do things differently. We will ensure the patient voice shapes every step.

Together, we can turn brain cancer from terminal to treatable. 💛

Honoured to be on BBC Breakfast this morning to share Billy and his story, and talk about what yesterday’s announcement could mean for families facing brain cancer.

Huge thanks to Archie Goodburn, Sarah and Georgie and everyone at Brain Cancer Justice and all the awesome Angel Mums who continue to work so hard to get our voices heard at the highest level.

There is hope in being heard. But that hope needs to become immediate action, funding for research that translates into trials and finally treatments to save lives.

Thank you to Naga and Charlie and everyone on the BBC Breakfast team for giving Billy’s story space (they were so lovely), and to everyone who watched, messaged and cheered me on. I felt like staying on the sofa to do the weather. 😂

Billy, I hope so much that I did you proud today. And I’ll never stop wishing I was holding your hand instead of talking about you on the telly. But I’ll keep telling your story. I know you’re right there. ❤️‍🩹

Zero sleep. So tired. On the train home.

The Prime Minister has committed to appointing a dedicated national brain cancer lead. 💛

This didn’t happen by chance. It happened because patients and families with lived experience, MPs from across parties, clinicians, researchers, charities and thousands of supporters all pushed in the same direction. And because Archie used his voice so powerfully. Thank you, Archie.

Alongside the new lead, the Government has announced an expert review, a national action plan and faster action on rare cancer medicines.

Thank you to every one of you who signed, wrote, shared and showed up. This is the first step towards turning brain cancer from terminal to treatable.

Brain Cancer Justice patients and families please be proud of yourselves today. We’ve seen positive steps forward. Archie had a very encouraging meeting with Andy Burnham. This was followed by the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission sharing their report. Then Yvette Cooper talked us through the Government’s next steps. There is acknowledgment of the desperate need for change and now a focus on how to go about this.

Let this not be hope for the future - let this be a certainty - that the UK is going to become the home of brain cancer experts, we will collaborate internationally, and we will turn Terminal into Treatable.

Promising British research for brain cancer shouldn’t be left waiting.

Trials like CureGBM show the UK has the ideas, the expertise and the partnerships to give glioblastoma patients new hope. What’s missing is the support to get them started quickly.

That’s why we need a National Brain Cancer Lead: someone whose job is to make sure trials like this reach UK patients, rather than stalling for lack of backing.

Write to Health Secretary Yvette Cooper and add your voice. It takes five minutes.

The past isn’t a complaint. It’s the evidence.

12 years of promises. £40 million pledged, a fraction delivered. The problems are known. What’s missing is someone in charge of fixing them.

Now we have a real chance to change that, with a National Brain Cancer Lead.

Write to Health Secretary Yvette Cooper today. Link in bio 👆

This is not a rare cancer.

We’ve lived it. We’ve watched brain cancer be left behind for too long. It’s time it had its own lead.

Write to the Health Secretary today. Link in bio 👆
