“I tried acupuncture once. It didn’t work.”
I’ve heard this a few times.
But one acupuncture treatment is just that: one treatment.
Acupuncture is often a cumulative medicine. Rather than looking at each session in isolation, the aim is to create consistent changes over time, with the effects of treatment building and developing from session to session.
Think of it a little like antibiotics. You wouldn’t take one dose, decide it hadn’t worked and stop there – you follow the prescribed course because consistency matters.
Acupuncture is similar. Depending on what you’re coming in for, how long you’ve had the problem and how your body responds, you may need a course of regular treatments before you can properly assess the full effect.
And once things have improved, that doesn’t necessarily mean acupuncture has to stop completely.
Maintenance treatments can be a valuable part of acupuncture care, helping you stay on top of recurring issues and supporting your health before problems become bigger ones.
Prevention is a big part of what I love about acupuncture: you don’t always have to wait until something is wrong to give your body some support.
So if you’ve tried acupuncture once and thought, “It didn’t work for me” – it may simply be that you didn’t give the treatment enough time to work.
Of course, acupuncture isn’t right for every person or every condition, and responses vary. But judging it after a single session doesn’t always give you the full picture.
Consistency matters. 💛
