s longevity just about living longer — or is it about living better, starting now?

October is Longevity Month, and I've been thinking about what it really means to live a long, healthy and fulfilling life.

We hear so much about preventing disease, slowing ageing and extending lifespan. But I think longevity should also be about enjoying the life we're living today.

The choices we make around food, movement, sleep, stress and recovery can all influence our future health. And the wonderful thing is that many of these same choices can help us feel healthier, happier and more energetic right now.

That's what inspired my latest video and blog, The Power of Now: A Different Way to Think About Longevity.

For me, healthy ageing isn't about fearing the future. It's about building the health, energy and resilience to keep doing the things we love for as long as possible.

Invest in tomorrow. Live today.

Is longevity just about the future — or can what we do now influence how we feel today and how well we age tomorrow?

October is Longevity Month, and it’s got me thinking about what longevity really means.

For me, it isn’t about becoming obsessed with ageing or constantly worrying about what might happen to our health in the future. It’s about the choices we can make now to build our health, energy and resilience — while still enjoying our lives today.

Because longevity isn’t something that suddenly becomes relevant when we get older. Our future health is being shaped throughout our lives.

My latest blog was inspired by something that came to me while I was out running: The Power of Now.

I explore how this idea connects with longevity, stress, acceptance and resilience — and why investing in our future health doesn’t have to mean forgetting to live in the present.

Invest in tomorrow. Live today.

Does Your Early Environment Shape Your Health?

When we think about our environment and health, we often think about things like food, pollution, chemicals or where we live.

But our environment is much bigger than that.

Our early relationships, family life and experiences can help shape how we think, feel, behave and respond to stress— sometimes creating patterns that we carry into adulthood without even realising it.

In this week's video, I'm exploring Environmental Input, the first stage of The Energy Map — my simple framework for helping you understand what may shape your health.

And there's an important connection with energy too. Responding and adapting to life's challenges requires energy, and how well we recover afterwards can influence our resilience over time.

The key thing to remember is that influence doesn't mean destiny. We continue to learn and adapt throughout life.

So for now, simply start noticing. What gives you energy? What drains it? And how well do you recover when life gets stressful?

A little milestone to share today — I’ve completed my Life Coaching Certificate with WILD Success.

You might wonder why, after many years working in nutritional medicine, I decided to add coaching to my skillset.

One of the things I’ve become increasingly aware of through my work is that knowing what supports our health and actually being able to put that knowledge into practice are two very different things.

We can know that we should eat well, move regularly, prioritise sleep, manage stress and make time for our health. But knowledge alone doesn't necessarily create change.

There are often things sitting further upstream that influence whether change actually happens — our beliefs, values, identity, priorities, environment and the picture we hold of the future we're working towards.

That's something I've become increasingly interested in as I develop the next phase of Boundless Energy.

My work is evolving towards a broader approach to preventative health and healthy ageing — looking at the many interconnected influences that shape not only our health today, but how we age in the years ahead.

So this certificate isn't about changing direction and becoming a life coach. It's about adding another set of skills to the work I already do — helping bridge the gap between knowing what to do and actually being able to live it.

And there's much more to come on that.

Does Your Early Environment Shape Your Health?

When you think about the things that influence your health, what comes to mind?

Perhaps the food you eat, how much you exercise, your sleep or the physical environment around you.

But your environment is much bigger than that. The environment you grew up in can help shape how you think, feel, behave and respond to life.

As children, we learn from our experiences, the people around us, what we're repeatedly told and the behaviours we see modelled.

Over time, some of those experiences can contribute to our expectations, beliefs and behaviours — and can also influence the development of our stress-response systems.

This week, I'm starting my journey around my simple framework that helps explain what can shape our health - The Energy Map - with Environmental Input and exploring the role of our developmental environment.

Why does it matter?

Because responding and adapting to life requires energy. And our ability to respond to challenges, recover afterwards and remain resilient is important not only for how we feel today, but for our health over the years ahead.

The good news is that influence doesn't mean destiny. We continue to learn and adapt throughout life, and becoming aware of some of the patterns we've carried with us can be a useful place to start.

So this week, simply notice.

What gives you energy? What consistently drains it? How quickly do you recover after a stressful day? Are there familiar beliefs or messages that might still be influencing how you respond?

You don't need to change anything yet. Just start noticing the patterns.

Because between something happening in our environment and our response to it, something important happens: we interpret it.

And that's where The Energy Map will take us next.

Introducing The Energy Map......

Earlier this week, I introduced something new that brings together the direction my work has been moving in for some time — The Energy Map.

For me, health has never been about just one thing. Nutrition and lifestyle matter, but so do our environment, experiences, stress, relationships and the way our bodies continually respond and adapt throughout life.

The Energy Map is a simple framework for bringing those different influences together and exploring how they may shape our health, energy, resilience and the way we age.

My bigger vision is to help transform how we think about health — moving away from waiting until something goes wrong before we start looking after ourselves, and towards taking an active role in building the health and resilience we want for the future.

In this short video, I explain a little more about why I’ve developed The Energy Map and where I’m going with it.

If you haven't seen the Map yet, you can see the full visual and read more about the thinking behind it in my introductory blog:

Next week, we’ll start exploring the Map itself, beginning with Environmental Input — what is your environment telling your biology?

Introducing The Energy Map: A Different Way to Think About Health and Ageing.

Health has never been about just one thing.

Nutrition and lifestyle are hugely important, but so are our environment, stress, relationships, sleep, movement, microbes, previous experiences and the many ways our different systems communicate with each other.

This bigger picture has fascinated me throughout my career and has increasingly led me towards health prevention and longevity — not simply how long we live, but how well we live.

That thinking has developed into something new that I’m really excited to start sharing: The Energy Map.

The Map looks at five interconnected stages:
Environmental Input → Interpretation → Communication → Adaptation → Resilience & Trajectory

At the centre is Energy, because every biological process depends upon it. Surrounding everything is our Life Course and Ageing Trajectory, because how well we age is influenced by what happens throughout our lives — beginning even before we are born.

The really interesting part is that this is a continuous feedback system. We respond and adapt to our environment and experiences, and those responses can change our internal environment, influencing how we respond to what comes next.

My bigger vision is to help transform how people think about health — moving away from waiting until something goes wrong and towards taking an active role throughout life in building health, energy, vitality and resilience.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be taking you around The Energy Map one stage at a time, exploring the science, the connections and what they might mean for how well we age.

Love love this photo. How colourful do we all look? We are like a rainbow🌈.

And very apt for the event we were attending watching a Global Style Strategist speak about the importance and impact of fashion and style in business.

Our little rainbow group got the approval of Alex for colour boldness 🎉 .

Humanfirstnetworking never fails to disappoint. A very different type of networking event that that brings the fun.....and clearly the style!

When we talk about energy, we usually mean how energetic – or tired – we feel.

And most of us seem to want more - to do more, be more, experience more.

But our bodies need energy for so much more. We need it to think, move, repair, recover and respond to the demands of everyday life.

That’s why I’m starting to look at energy differently.

I’m interested not only in what can drain our energy, but in what helps us maintain our capacity to function well, adapt and bounce back – and what that might mean for our health as we get older.

This is The Whole Energy Picture, and it’s the direction I’m taking Boundless Energy next.

In this short video, I explain a little more about the thinking behind it.

If you’d like to understand why this is also a very personal direction for me, you can read my latest blog here:

What does energy really mean when we talk about our health?

Over the past 10 weeks, I’ve been exploring ten different Hidden Drivers of health – including stress, sleep, digestion, nutrients, inflammation, immunity, hormones and environmental exposure.

Writing the series reinforced something I’ve observed throughout my years working in nutrition: we separate health into neat little boxes far more easily than our bodies do.

Everything overlaps. And one thing every system in the body depends upon is energy.

Energy is also personal to me. It’s one of the reasons I called my business Boundless Energy. I’ve always been naturally energetic – from being a hyperactive child to becoming a competitive runner – and as I’ve got older, I’ve become increasingly interested in what helps us preserve that energy, resilience and ability to bounce back.

That’s where I’m taking Boundless Energy next.

My new blog, The Whole Energy Picture, looks at why I’m moving beyond individual Hidden Drivers to explore the bigger picture of energy, resilience and how well we age.

And yes, I’m also hoping to preserve my own natural fizz and bounce for as long as possible!
