National Health Education Week is a reminder that good health information should be useful and accessible to everyone. 💙

For people with a physical disability or limited mobility, staying active can sometimes require a different approach, but there are many ways to adapt exercise around your individual abilities and needs.

Physical activity can support heart health, strength, joints, maintaining a healthy weight and mental wellbeing. Everyday movements can also form part of staying active, and exercises can often be adapted so they can be completed seated or with mobility aids.

Start with manageable activities, listen to your body and gradually build up what you do. There is no single exercise plan that will suit everyone, so consider speaking to a healthcare professional before starting a new exercise routine if you're unsure what is appropriate for you. 🩺

Focus on what you can do and find activities that work for your body. Every bit of movement counts. 💙

Did you know you can manage appointments through the NHS App? 📱💙

The NHS App can make it easier to keep track of your healthcare. Depending on the services available through your GP surgery and healthcare providers, you can view upcoming appointments, manage GP appointments and access information about hospital and specialist appointments.

For patients who use British Sign Language (BSL), NHS App guidance videos include the option to turn on BSL, including a video explaining how to manage upcoming GP and hospital appointments. 🤟

Using the app can also make it easier to cancel an appointment you no longer need, helping the appointment become available for someone else. If you need to change a GP appointment, you may need to cancel it and book a new one. 📅

Thank you to everyone who made the Saturday Flu and Covid Vaccination Clinics a success. Thank you to staff for volunteering their time and the Lions Club for marshalling our car park in busy times, couldn't do these clinics without you, thank you.

Unfortunately though we have had a lot of DNA's as well.
1. Should you find that you are unwell and wish to re-arrange or unable to make your appointment on the Saturday, please contact the surgery by 5pm the Friday before the Clinic.

2. Should you find that you are poorly on the day and have had to send photos to the surgery via WhatsApp, please use this to communicate to us that you are unable to attend.

We can then bring patients into the clinics that can attend.

Thank you again everyone and roll on April / May when we have the next lot of Covid Saturday Clinics!!!

Flu season is here – would you know the symptoms and what to do if you become unwell? 🤒

Flu symptoms usually come on quickly and can include a sudden high temperature, an aching body, feeling very tired or exhausted, a dry cough, sore throat, headache, difficulty sleeping and loss of appetite. Some people may also experience diarrhoea, tummy pain, nausea or vomiting.

If you have flu, most people can look after themselves at home. Get plenty of rest and sleep, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, and consider paracetamol or ibuprofen for a temperature, aches and pains if these medicines are suitable for you. A pharmacist can also offer advice about treatments and flu remedies. 💧🛌

Try to stay at home and avoid contact with others if you have a high temperature, feel hot, cold or shivery, or are not well enough to carry out your usual activities. 🏠

Seek medical advice if you feel very unwell, become short of breath, your symptoms have not improved after 7 days, or you're in a group at higher risk of becoming seriously ill.

October is National Cholesterol Month – do you know your cholesterol levels? ❤️

High cholesterol means you have too much cholesterol in your blood. It does not usually cause symptoms, so a blood test is the only way to find out if your cholesterol is high. Left unmanaged, it can contribute to blocked blood vessels and increase your risk of heart problems and stroke. 🩺

There are positive steps you can take to help manage your cholesterol. Eating a balanced diet, being physically active, maintaining a healthy weight and stopping smoking can all support your heart health. Some people may also need cholesterol-lowering medication. 🥗🚶‍♀️

This National Cholesterol Month, take some time to think about your heart health and find out whether you should have your cholesterol checked. ❤️
