⚠️ THE DANGERS OF DIY ACID PLASTERS! ⚠️
My poor patient used an over-the-counter medicated plaster containing salicylic acid on a callus, hoping for a quick fix. Instead, it caused:
The callus to macerate - turnng into a soggy, white, broken-down mess.
The corrosive chemical leaked onto the healthy skin next to it, leaving an open blister.
Salicylic acid is highly corrosive and cannot tell the difference between callus and healthy tissue. If the plaster shifts, it burns the skin!
They are especially dangerous for anyone with diabetes or poor circulation.
The patient was safely treated and Im happy to say has thrown the callus plasters in the bin!!
