Wateringbury Surgery is looking for an experienced and motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team. 💙

This is a fixed-term maternity cover position, expected to start in December 2026 and potentially lasting up to 12 months.

✨ The role:
🕒 20 hours per week
📅 Flexible days and times
⚠️ Must be available to work Mondays
📍 Wateringbury Surgery, Maidstone, Kent

As our Medical Secretary, you’ll play an important role behind the scenes, supporting our GPs and clinical team and helping to ensure patients receive a smooth and efficient service.

Key duties include:
📋 Processing referrals
✉️ Managing clinical correspondence
💻 Typing and administrative support
🏥 Liaising with hospitals and other healthcare services
📞 Supporting telephone and email enquiries
🔐 Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records

We’re looking for someone who:
✔️ Has previous medical secretarial experience, ideally in General Practice or the NHS
✔️ Has excellent organisational and communication skills
✔️ Is confident with IT and accurate typing
✔️ Can manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively
✔️ Is professional, reliable and discreet
✔️ Enjoys working as part of a friendly team

As children return to school, common conditions such as headlice, ringworm and threadworm can become more common. These conditions can often be safely managed through self-care, with appropriate treatments available to purchase from supermarkets, convenience stores and local pharmacies without a prescription.

📢 Coming Soon – New Digital Tool to Support Patient Care

We’re pleased to let our patients know that we will soon be introducing GP Automate, a secure digital system designed to help our practice manage some routine administrative and clinical processes more efficiently, including routine results.

This will help our team spend more time supporting patients, while ensuring appropriate clinical oversight, confidentiality and data security remain in place.

Patient information will continue to be handled in accordance with UK GDPR, Data Protection legislation and NHS information governance requirements.

There have been around 14 million consultations through the pharmacy first service since it launched in February 2024.

You can get treatment for these conditions from your local community pharmacist, including some prescription medicine, if needed – without you seeing a GP.

From this autumn, participating pharmacies will be able to assess and treat 5 additional common conditions:

- migraine in adults
- outer ear infections in adults
- acne in young people and adults
- mild skin infections and scabies
- seasonal allergic rhinitis in children
