Community champion Jo from our Pwllheli supermarket is a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! over the 20 years since the store opened.

It's a cause very close to Jo's heart. She said: "Tickled Pink means so much to me as I have lost so many of my family and friends to breast cancer, including my mum, grandmother, my sister and my aunt, and I've had a few health scares myself. To me Tickled Pink is all about hope, awareness, kindness, knowledge ... and vital fundraising. It's also about having fun with colleagues and customers and of course wearing lots of pink – tutus, wigs, you name it, we love pink! Whenever I have a Tickled Pink event in our store the conversations that I have with customers about their cancer journey is often very emotional and sad, but hearing people's good news is wonderful, as there really is hope."

Thanks to the generous support of customers and colleagues Asda has raised more than £100 million for charity since Tickled Pink launched in 1996 – and Jo says it's so important that it continues to raise awareness: "Early detection is so important so please to check your chest, pecs and b***s no matter your age, that includes men too! And if you find anything that doesn't feel right, please see your GP."

Community champion Kuia from our Belvedere store has fought breast cancer twice so knows how difficult it can be for people to talk about their own diagnosis and treatment – which is why she's always ready to be a listening ear and a friendly face to chat to.

She's a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. In that time Tickled Pink has raised £100 million to change the outcomes of breast cancer in the UK, working with charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!.

Kuia said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and the progress which has been achieved over the past 30 years is remarkable. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer the first time at the age of 28 I was just given a leaflet, and that's it. I didn't know anyone my age who'd had breast cancer and I never knew success stories either. Some people couldn't even say the word cancer, they'd cross the street to avoid me. People even thought it was contagious! Now there's support networks and groups out there and you can contact nurses online. Access to information is a lot easier and there are new remedies and treatments too.

"I'm very open about having had breast cancer. In my job I meet a lot of people who have been diagnosed and are scared. Everybody's journey is different, but it's nice sometimes to see somebody who has got through the other side. I'm very open about what I've been through and I do a lot of awareness stands for Tickled Pink which involve talking to customers and handing out leaflets. Sometimes people just want to talk to someone about their diagnosis and they are in a bit of shock."

18/10/2026

Helping a mum who gave birth in the car park of our Ipswich store inspired our colleague Charmaine to train as a midwife – and after three years at university, including placements at Ipswich Hospital and helping with 40 births – she's now fully qualified.

Charmaine said: "I was just going home and walking across the car park with a colleague when we heard what was going on and went over to help. The dad had just taken the baby and put it on mum. We rang the ambulance and got towels for the baby and waited for the ambulance to come. It was just a beautiful moment."

Charmaine has worked at Asda alongside her studies. She's looking for midwife opportunities, but hasn't ruled continuing in a part-time capacity with Asda. She said: "I sometimes see ladies who I've helped deliver their babies out shopping in Asda and they say to me 'hi, what are you doing here?' Working in the hospital and Asda was such a contrast though. I'd be delivering babies one day and then stacking shelves the next. Everyone at the store is very friendly and they've been very accommodating and supportive of me when I've been studying. It's been really lovely. Customers are really nice too and they know all about my studying."

Robert, the store's produce manager, said: “I’m so proud of Charmaine for balancing her work alongside her midwife course. It’s not easy managing both, and the effort she’s put into it deserves recognition. It’s great to see her working towards something she’s passionate about and I wish her all the best in the future."

16/10/2026

As part of the marketing team at Asda, Katie has been helping raise awareness of our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign for the last 18 years – and she says its messages of regularly checking yourself and knowing what to look for were critical when she got her own breast cancer diagnosis.

Katie used a guide from Tickled Pink charity partner CoppaFeel! to make sure she was properly checking her breasts. And when she felt a lump during one of her routine checks in September 2024 she knew she needed to get it looked at. She said: "Because I’ve been involved in Tickled Pink throughout my time with Asda I was exposed to all the important messages, so was really good at regularly checking myself and knew how to do it and what to look out for. I use the CoppaFeel! infographic showing how to check properly, including under the armpits. That was crucial because I had such a good routine and good rigour. That’s why I had noticed that change and was able to monitor that. Even before my diagnosis, Tickled Pink added value to my life because I knew to be vigilant."

And after her diagnosis, support from Tickled Pink charity partner Breast Cancer Now made a huge difference: "One of the first things they gave me after my diagnosis was from Breast Cancer Now with all of the terms I was likely to hear and information on what to expect. That gave me a lot of comfort and hope and I felt quite positive going into my treatment. I used the Breast Cancer Now forum during my treatment and met ladies who were in a similar position to me. You feel lonely and like you are the only person in the world going through it, but the forum helped me get through it. And after I had finished my treatment I did the Moving Forward course which is funded by money raised by Tickled Pink. You work out your plan, talk about how you feel, what a new normal might look like and how to find your place in the world again."

Katie returned to work in February and is using her experience, and her marketing expertise, to help other women in a similar situation. She uses her Instagram account to document her experience. She's been directly involved with Tickled Pink this year, including the Kylie Minogue Tickled Pink T-shirt launch. She said: "It’s amazing to work on. When I came back into the business people were a bit reluctant to get me involved with Tickled Pink in case it was triggering for me, but I was like ‘let me at it!’ and couldn’t wait to get involved."

Asda customer Darren has a personal reason for supporting the 30th anniversary celebrations for Tickled Pink – he’s had breast cancer himself. 🎀

Darren said: "Being a being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen.”

13/10/2026

As part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign Sam is taking on a "triple no ni**le challenge" to raise awareness and inspire people to check themselves.

At 19, Sam was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy to her chest. While the treatment saved her life, radiotherapy increased their risk of developing breast cancer later in life. She underwent a risk reduction double mastectomy in April 2025 and says that for her, it was the right decision. Now 32, she has tackled the London Marathon, Chase the Sun, a 205-mile cycle ride between sunrise and sunset, and a two-mile Swim Serpentine challenge in London – raising money for our charity partner CoppaFeel!. Sam took on all of her three challenges topless to start conversations, challenge perceptions and show that her body is strong and valid.

She said: "It's liberating! I'm doing them all topless to show off the scars. I want people to be able to advocate for themselves, go to the GP and, seeing my chest, think, 'I should probably check my chest, there's a bit of a lump, go get it checked out. I don't want to get scars like that.' I think it's beautiful, this survivor's body I live in and I'm really proud of it. But I know there'll be some people that feel differently, they might see that and go "I should get that little lump checked" and that's what I'm doing. I've lived through all that rubbish so that I can try and turn it into something good. I wanted to do something bold and brave and give people an opportunity to see it."

Sam also has a message for Asda customers: "Happy 30th birthday to Tickled Pink. What you guys have been doing over the years is amazing. I've been seeing that messaging since I was a kid and you know when Asda turns pink everybody knows about it. It's such a great platform to raise that awareness and raise that message and get people checking their chests and advocating for themselves and raising money for vital things like Breast Cancer Now and everything they do and CoppaFeel! and everything they do. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"Being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock" – the words of Asda customer Darren, who's a big advocate for our Tickled Pink campaign.

Darren is a regular at our Cannock store's Tickled Pink events raising money and awareness for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. He's always happy to chat to customers and colleagues about his experience and offer advice to anyone who needs it. He was diagnosed with grade two invasive ductal cancer in June 2023 after his wife Fiona felt a lump in his chest when he was lying down. She is registered blind and has a heightened sense of touch.

Darren said: "It was just a massive shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen. I think in a way I've been really lucky as from finding my lump to my op it was only six weeks. I am one of the very lucky few who haven't had to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm just on Tamoxifen for five years."

Asda Cannock community champion Sue said: "It's great having Darren at our events, where he's able to give a male perspective on breast cancer. It really brings it home that breast cancer doesn't discriminate, both men and women can get it."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from Asda Thornaby are at the heart of the store’s Tickled Pink activity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. 🎀

They've all had breast cancer and, after recovering well, are using their own experiences to help customers and colleagues recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! in the process. 💗

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about.

09/10/2026

💗 This year, Sam took on running, cycling and swimming challenges to help raise awareness for CoppaFeel!

After being diagnosed with cancer at 19 and later undergoing a double mastectomy, Sam chose to celebrate her body and encourage others to know their normal.

We're honoured that Sam shared her story as part of Tickled Pink.💕

A student who suffers from anxiety when she goes clothes shopping has thanked our colleague Milli for going out of her way to help her get an outfit for her last day at university.

The customer wrote to the store to give a big shout out to 21-year-old Milli, who herself has just graduated from Manchester Met University with a degree in psychology and quantitative data, thanking Milli for being on hand as she tried on different outfits on a late-night shopping visit ahead of her last day at university. She wrote: "This was an example of great customer service, going above and beyond when she didn't have to. A real girl's girl. She even gave me her honest opinion on my outfit choices and helped me choose something suitable."

Milli said: "I was just happy to help and give my advice and opinions. I told her which ones I thought fitted her better. I ended up having quite an in depth 'girly' conversation with her about where it was baggy and where it was tight etc. In the end she bought two outfits which she was going to choose between."

Milli has been nominated for an Asda service superstar award for her service, with customer manager Lisa saying: "Amelia is such a lovely, friendly colleague who always has a smile and a kind word to say. We are very proud of her."

A regular customer at our Hulme store says the customer service and kindness he received from colleague Caroline was the best he'd ever had.

The gentleman, who's in his 70s, didn't have enough money for his groceries. He knew he had money in his Asda Rewards cash pot but didn't understand he had to create a voucher so he asked Caroline for help. Caroline showed him how to download the voucher but when the balance still wasn't enough, Caroline gave him some vouchers from the store so he could pay for the rest of his shopping.

Lisa, the store's customer manager, said: "The elderly gentleman was so overwhelmed for what she did and thanked her graciously. He then approached the duty manager and explained that in his many years he had never come across such kindness. Caroline will always do the best for the customer. She is very well thought of, she's a star."

Caroline said: "The gentleman was struggling so I helped him out. It was the right thing to do. He was very grateful. I like helping people and doing my best. I've been here a long time so I know a lot of the customers – some have been coming here for years."

Many happy returns, Jadwiga!

At the grand age of 100, Jadwiga is our Hulme store's oldest customer – shopping there independently at least twice a week for the past 28 years since it first opened.

She's treated like part of the family by Asda colleagues and when they found out it was her special birthday they presented her with gifts, a card and even paid for her shopping. Jadwiga, who moved to Manchester from her native Poland in 1947, uses a four-wheel push-along trolley to help her get to the store from her home in nearby Moss Side.

She said: "I've been coming to the store since it first opened and I come here twice if not three times a week. I like coming here very, very much. It's a good store and everyone is so kind, friendly and polite. They are so helpful. Sometimes I do need help and they help me. Asda is my favourite shop; I wouldn't go anywhere else."

Jadwiga has formed a close bond with our colleague Afaf over the years and always goes to her checkout when she's working. Afaf helped her celebrate her birthday too. She said: "Jadwiga is such a lovely lady and we always have a good chat when she comes to my till. She's always telling me what's going on in her life. She told me she was going to be 100 so I told her to come to my till when it was her birthday. I got her chocolate, skin care, flowers and a badge. I could see a tear when I gave it to her. She was so happy and gave me a big hug. I love her."

When Imran from our Hulme store found out that one of our older customers was celebrating her birthday on her own he decided to buy her some flowers and chocolates.

The lady's daughter came into Asda a few days later to say that her mum had been really touched by Imran's gesture and that it had made her day. Imran said: "The lady is a regular customer and she mentioned to me that it was her birthday so I got her some chocolates and some flowers, I just thought it was a nice thing to do. She was delighted. I do try to make the customers happy if I can; I like to be polite and helpful. I've been here a lot of years so I know a lot of people here. "

Asda Hulme customer manager Lisa said: "The lady's daughter was really thankful that Imran had made her mum's day so special as she lived on her own and she was away for her birthday. Imran loves to make people feel happy. He is such a kind and caring man and is a great example to us all. He's very approachable and friendly and is such a popular member of the team."

Imran has been rewarded through Asda's internal recognition scheme to cover the cost of the flowers and chocolates plus a little extra to thank him for his kindness.

A customer was so impressed with the help given by bakery colleague Ray when she was struggling to sort a photo cake for her daughter's birthday that she got in touch with the store to praise him.

Ray, who's 66 and has been at the store for 22 years, said: "I saw that the lady was getting a bit distressed and having a little difficulty with the photo machine, so I said 'not to worry' and did it for her. She couldn't find candles either, so I took her to them too. She was very grateful. I always help where I can."

Customer manager Lisa said: "The lady was complimentary about Ray's helpful and friendly attitude. Without his support she wouldn't have been able to get the cake she wanted. Nothing is ever to much trouble for Ray. He is always happy to help and is much loved by colleagues and customers alike. Ray makes working and shopping in Hulme a joy with his smile and can-do attitude."
