WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 💚 An injury doesn’t only affect you physically. Time away from training and matches can bring disappointment, frustration and a loss of confidence. For some athletes, being separated from the routine and camaraderie of their team can also feel incredibly isolating.

If you’re recovering from an injury, remember that you don’t have to manage those feelings alone. Speak openly with someone you trust, stay connected with teammates and celebrate the smaller milestones throughout your rehabilitation - not just the final return to play.

Coaches and teammates can help too. A simple check-in, an invitation to attend training or finding another way for an injured player to remain involved can make a real difference.

Recovery has physical and emotional challenges. Asking for support is a sign of strength, both on and off the pitch. 🏏

🏏 Don’t carry this season’s injury into the next one. It can be tempting to dismiss persistent pain as a “small niggle” — especially once the fixtures are finished. But if it keeps returning, affects your movement or changes the way you bowl, bat or field, it deserves attention.

Winter training should be an opportunity to recover, rebuild and prepare, not compensate for an unresolved problem.

An end-of-season assessment can help identify what is causing your symptoms and provide a clear plan for rehabilitation and a safe return to training.

WORLD HEART DAY ❤️ 🏏 A healthy heart helps power every run, every delivery and every moment on the field.

This World Heart Day, we’re reminding cricketers of all ages that looking after your health is just as important as developing your skills. Regular movement, balanced nutrition, proper recovery and listening to your body can all support your long-term wellbeing.

Whether you play competitively or enjoy a casual game at the weekend, give your heart the care it deserves. 🏏

Young cricketers’ bodies are constantly developing, and periods of rapid growth can temporarily affect strength, flexibility and coordination.

While some aches can occur after activity, recurring pain should not automatically be dismissed as “growing pains.”

Parents and coaches should pay particular attention if a young player:
⚡️ Regularly reports pain in the same area
⚡️ Starts limping or changes their technique
⚡️ Experiences pain during or after every session
⚡️ Loses movement, strength or confidence
⚡️ Has pain that interrupts sleep or everyday activities

Encourage young players to speak up about discomfort and avoid creating pressure to play through it. Adjusting workloads and seeking an early assessment can help identify the cause, guide recovery and support their long-term development.

Taking pain seriously doesn’t make a young cricketer less resilient - it helps keep them playing the sport they love 💪 🏏

INJURY SPOTLIGHT: SIDE STRAIN 🏏
Side strains are particularly associated with fast bowling. The forceful combination of trunk rotation, side-bending and repeated high-intensity deliveries places significant demand on the muscles around the ribs and abdominal wall.

Warning signs can include:
⚡ Sudden, sharp pain in the side during bowling
⚡ Local tenderness around the lower ribs
⚡ Pain when twisting or side-bending
⚡ Discomfort when coughing, sneezing or taking a deep breath
⚡ Pain that returns when attempting to bowl again

Trying to “push through” can aggravate the injury and delay a safe return. If pain is sudden, persistent, affects everyday movement or prevents you from bowling normally, seek a specialist assessment.

An accurate diagnosis is the first step towards the right rehabilitation and a confident return to the crease.
