Something to think about …

Losing just 10 pounds can relieve 40 pounds of pressure from your knees because of a 4-to-1 ratio between body weight and joint stress during daily activities like walking.

This happens because the knee functions as a complex lever where the forces of gravity and muscle contractions—specifically from the quadriceps and hamstrings—multiply the actual weight the joint must support.

For every single pound lost, you remove roughly 4 pounds of compressive force with every step.

Since the average person takes 5,000 to 6,000 steps a day, losing 10 pounds eliminates hundreds of thousands of pounds of cumulative pressure daily, significantly slowing the wear and tear on cartilage and helping to prevent osteoarthritis.

The physical relief is even greater during more strenuous movements, as activities like climbing or descending stairs can increase knee pressure to 3 or 4 times your total body weight.

Beyond simply reducing mechanical weight, losing body fat also lowers systemic inflammation.

Because fat tissue is biologically active, it releases chemicals that can damage joint tissue over time.

By reducing these inflammatory markers, weight loss provides a double benefit of both physical pressure relief and biological protection for your joints, leading to a major reduction in chronic pain.
