Reiki Mark Cross Originally from Japan, this now global non-invasive healing technique supports the body's own ability to restore its own balance and mend.

Reiki Mark Cross is a health and well-being company situated in the beautiful Sussex countryside that offers 1 hour treatments and teaching to Shinpiden (Master Teacher level) teaching traditional Japanese Reiki. 💜 Reiki is a form of hands on healing that uses the practitioner's ability to sense energy disturbances and imbalances in the body and provide loving support to bring about comfort, relief and healing. Particularly useful in times of great distress and to speed up the recovery from long term injury and illness, Reiki seems to work on a very deep level bringing out restoration of balance, release of tension and shifts in energy. To date I have successfully helped individuals suffering with Chronic Fatigue, infertility, headaches and migraines, loss of confidence, asthma and breathing conditions, skin disorders and obesity.

WHY MEDITATION IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF REIKI

When Mikao Usui, the founder of the practice we call Reiki, put together a curriculum for students, it included meditation as a core necessity, but why?

Usui knew from his years studying different spiritual practices and his own enlightenment process that things like having a clear mind, being an empty vessel, being able to maintain focus on the present moment and having a strong and stable base were essential to being effective at Reiki treatments.

Meditation calms the body, which in turn calms the mind. A calm body and mind is more easily able to sense and feel where healing is needed. Being more attuned to ourselves and/or our treatment recipients allows us to focus on the greatest area of need rather than give a blanket treatment, resulting in a faster and better outcome.

Meditation also helps us to let go of our worry and anger, helping us to be more present to the moment, and more accepting of reality as it is. When I am giving a treatment, my sole focus is on the messages I am receiving from the person's body. In return, it is my experience that their body is responding to my thoughts as if they were their own. Therefore, if I am thinking about tomorrow's chores, I'm not present and their body can't relax either. So meditation helps us to live more in the present on a daily basis, and be more present in our treatments.

Meditation also helps us to release our stuck and stored emotions. Much of the stress in our body is because we are in a fight with life. We don't like certain things and we wish we had more of others. This conflict with reality is the very definition of stress - a resistance to what is. The less resistance in our body and mind, the more easily energy will flow and harmony will be restored.

Meditation also keeps us grounded. When we sit with another, it is important that we do not become overwhelmed by their feelings, challenges and physical sensations. Having a strong and stable base enables us to let life move through us offering a pathway of release for the client. Our non-attachment to their issues could be the very thing that helps them to let a big stressor go.

Is meditation easy? No, not always! Sometimes it is hard to sit with the reality of life. Life, can at times, appear to be painful, disappointing, frustrating and not what we expected. It takes great courage and strength to sit with the consequences of our confused mind and inaccurate thinking till the muddy waters clear. Discipline and commitment is required to make a meaningful difference as the benefits tend to be small and gradual improvements rather than one giant shift. For this reason, many people try meditation, get frustrated at their progress (or perceived lack of), and give up when they don't see results.

This is why I created an online meditation group. As someone that is socially motivated, in my early years I needed the company of others to encourage me to sit, stay focused and practice. Initially we met in person, but with the advent of the pandemic we moved online and now enjoy a very sustainable Monday night group that meets at 8.15pm every Monday UK time.

The group is like-minded people committed to gaining the health benefits of a regular mediation practice. We start with a group chat to understand the joys and challenges of each other's lives, followed by a discussion on a theme such as gratitude, surrendering the ego or the benefits of rest. This is then followed with a 20 minutes or more meditation relating to the theme that is sometimes guided, and sometimes not. After, there is the chance to ask questions, or simply share an insight into how the practice landed.

If such a group calls to you, there are two ways to join. Sessions can be purchased on an individual basis at £8.50 a session, or a £24 monthly subscription allows attendance to all available Mondays (4 sessions a month). For more details, click on the details at the top of this page to be redirected to the services section of my website.

This opportunity is open to anyone that has trained in Reiki or those with an existing meditation practice. Those wishing to learn meditation or Reiki are encouraged to reach out and find out when the next training opportunity is.

For those of you new to this page, a little hi, and welcome!

My name is Becci, and I live and practice Reiki in the beautiful Sussex village of Mark Cross.

I started my Reiki journey in 2009, but didn't find the right teacher until 2010.

I was interested in Reiki because I'd watched my horses get energy healing growing up and at the time I was struggling to deal with other people's emotions.

Ever since I was a kid I've been obsessed with healing people with love, so I liked the idea I could train in a hands on healing technique which meant I had the necessary paperwork to be able to offer it to the public.

I found a wonderful teacher in Tunbridge Wells that was very encouraging and passionate about Reiki. Spending time with him was like stepping into a parallel universe where the world paused and was good enough, exactly as it was.

I moved through the levels, surprising myself when I chose to train as a teacher. It took me 4 years to go through to teacher level, and now I have been a teacher for 12 years.

It's a huge joy and blessing to teach. It is wonderful to see the light come on in people's eyes as they realise they are able to make a difference simply by being present.

Anyone can do Reiki, you don't have to have a spiritual background, you don't even need to believe in it. Reiki is simply an explanation of reality.

Think you'd like to be able to support people through quiet, calming touch? What about being able to calm a room simply by your being there? Or perhaps you'd like to support a family member or pet with an illness or injury?

Reiki has so many applications, from helping people let go of the past, to supporting them to live a life that's true to their essence. It can help manage pain, reduce anxiety, improve sleep, restore confidence and help you find purpose and direction, if you want it to.

Personally, I think it's a brilliant skill to have to support ourselves and loved ones. I've been practicing now for 16 years and I love it more now than ever.

What a beautiful Online Reiki Share this evening! Everyone left ready to tuck themselves up for a restful and rejuvenating nights sleep. Ah bliss.

Taking time to support and nurture ourselves is so important. It is only when we slow down that we may see how much we have been carrying and how many we have been helping.

But we cannot help others if we ourselves aren't shining brightly. 🕯️ Giving ourselves an hour of "me" time once a month is a step towards better health and wellbeing. It won't make the chaos and difficult things stop, but it will give you a few moments of calm in a loving and supportive community, and that goes a long way.

All my Reiki Shares are open to anyone that has completed a Reiki level 1 (Shoden) or above, whether it's with me or someone else. We start with a chat and a check in, followed by some time to settle before we send healing to group members in turn.

If you are wanting to head in the direction of more Zen check out the events section of my website to see when the next opportunities are. If you're local to Mark Cross, why not come and check out an in-person session? We'd love to welcome you.

ARE YOU CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO DO REIKI TREATMENTS?

I ponder, a lot! And one of the things I found myself pondering recently was how important confidence is when it comes to Reiki treatments.

That confidence comes in two forms:

1) That Reiki is an effective complimentary approach to addressing health issues. In Japan, at the height of it's popularity, hands on healing was sometimes the only medical intervention available. There are stories of people curing tuberculosis, addressing a heart attack and helping with difficult births with only Reiki treatments - usually for several hours, sometimes for several days. Modern medicine means we have much quicker and safer ways to treat illnesses, but it doesn't mean that Reiki treatments can't be useful alongside the modern approach. I don't believe it has to be either or. In fact, I quite like the idea that by applying Reiki to our life, we're naturally drawn to the most effective interventions. Furthermore, because I see illness as a representation of our mental state and/or our family trauma, by applying Reiki we heal the cause so the medicine works first time and the issue is dealt with and doesn't return.

2) Confidence in our ability to make a difference. Lack of confidence is one of the primary issues I see in my clinic, and it's pretty common amongst students too. Somehow we have created a society of unconfident people, which is potentially worsened by how much we compare ourselves to others on social media. A lack of confidence will stop you from offering a treatment to someone that would potentially benefit if you were open to the idea that you could help. The answer here is, you'll never know till you try.

Which is one of the reasons I created the 7th November Reiki Day. The BEST way to increase confidence in the benefits of Reiki and your ability to help others is to do Reiki. This day will be 5 hours of immersion in the practice of Reiki from meditations and breathing exercises, to self-treatments and treating others. It's the PERFECT way to build confidence and make you more likely to practice in the future. The event is taking place in a beautiful converted Victorian church which has been picked specifically for its light and airy space. There is free parking close by and a wonderful and enriching group of people that would like to spend the day with you doing nurturing energy work as practicing Reiki. Will you be joining them? 💜

Why is Reiki such a prevalent healing technique? One of the reasons is because it's one of the few healing techniques where a teaching framework was created.

Many healers discover they have a gift at restoring balance and harmony but Mikao Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho, was one of the few healers that passed his techniques on.

It is known that Usui trained 22 people (there may have been more) to teach his approach which is why Usui Reiki has survived when other forms of Reiki from that time did not.

Usui's teaching approach is unsurprisingly when you consider Usui founded his first school for gifted students when he was 26 years old, going on to head up a Methodist school and a night school age 33. Usui clearly had passion for education before turning it to teaching Reiki later on in his life.

Usui's techniques have since become the foundation of three levels of Reiki training taught today.

Level 1 - Shoden - Beginners teachings.
- Poems and the Reiki precepts for cultivating the right mental attitude to perform healing
- Meditation techniques to develop focus, a strong and stable base and energy in the hands
- Self treatment and treating others
- Reiju - a spiritual activation ceremony to remind the student of their true nature

Level 2 - Okuden - Inner teachings
- 3 symbols and their associated mantras (Kotodama) to embody being Reiki on a deeper level
- Additional meditation and healing techniques
- Honouring the precepts at this next level of training
- Marked case studies enable practitioners to perform Reiki treatments professionally

Level 3 - Sinpinden - Mystery teachings (sacred transmissions of secret knowledge)
- Revisiting the intentions behind the first 3 symbols and mantras
- Inclusion of the 4th symbol and mantra
- Option to go to teacher level and learn the Reiju process and how to become a Reiki teacher

Each level is 2 days of training, though this can be done over a longer time frame. Levels are completed at an organic pace, determined by the mastery of each level before progressing on to the next. Historically in Japan it took years of dedicated practice to move through the levels. Here in the West people want quick results and kudos, so typically ask to move through the levels much quicker.

Couple the availability of being taught how to perform healing, along with an established curriculum and people's desire for a way to support themselves and loved ones, it's unsurprising Reiki has become as popular as it has. Though it hasn't reached the popularity it had in Japan in Usui's time as yet where at least one family member would have done the training, investing considerable sums to educate themselves on this healing approach and pathway to enlightenment.

Want to tread in their footsteps? I run courses on demand and specialise in supporting families with and horse owners wanting a way to provide timely support to their . Please get in touch for more information.
