It’s been a while since I properly introduced myself, and so much has changed since then.

I’m Sarah, founder of True Skin & Laser and True Skin & Laser Academy, wife, mum of two and owner of two little Havanese dogs.

Before starting my business, I spent 19 years teaching Business, including working as Head of Department. I loved helping people learn, grow in confidence and see what they were capable of.

But I wanted something for myself, too.

I wanted the freedom to have my own schedule, make my own decisions and control where my working life was going. And, if I’m honest, I’ve never particularly liked being told what to do!

I had the ambition and the work ethic. I just needed somewhere I could put them to use in a way that felt right for me.

So I started a skin and laser clinic in a converted garage. The plan was to build it alongside teaching for a few years.

Six months later, I handed in my notice.

Within a year, I was running a six-figure clinic.

It took a huge amount of work, but I was building something of my own, and I could see the possibilities opening up.

Since then, both the business and I have evolved. Today, alongside my clinic work, I help women become successful skin and laser clinic owners through practical training and business support.

It brings together so much of what I love: teaching, skin and laser, business, and helping someone realise they’re capable of more than they thought.

I care about what happens after a course, too. When you’re choosing equipment, setting prices, finding clients or wondering whether you’re making the right decisions - that’s when having someone to turn to can mean so much.

Looking back, there’s a thread running through everything I’ve done. Whether I’m teaching in a classroom, successfully removing hair from a woman who suffers with her hormones or supporting a woman as she builds her clinic, I love helping people become the best version of themselves.

Starting my own business gave me the opportunity to do that on my own terms. Now I get to help other women create that opportunity for themselves.

Being fully booked doesn’t always mean your business is profitable.

If you’re working long days but not seeing the income you’d hoped for, it might be time to look at what you’re offering, not just how many clients you can fit in.

All those years you've spent in your current career, they're not wasted. If fact they're a real advantage. You've dealt with deadlines, clients, organising your time. It's all transferable and it massively helps when you're staring your new business.
It's not a waste, it's a step up the ladder and you'll bring that version of you with you on this next part of your journey 💛

You’ve been thinking about changing careers for years.

You know it’s something you want to do. You’ve looked into it, researched the training, imagined what it might look like to have your own business.

But somehow, another few months go by. Then another year.

There’s always a reason why now isn’t quite the right time.

I know, because I changed careers at 42. I had a mortgage, children and a teaching career I’d spent years building. It would have been very easy to keep putting it off.

But here’s the thing. You don’t have to give up the career you’ve got to start building the one you want.

I started training while I was still teaching, and built my skin and laser business alongside it.

So maybe the question isn’t whether you really want to change careers.
