A little reminder that even those of us who spend our days telling others to slow down sometimes need to listen to our own advice. 🤍
I’ve spent most of my weekend completely floored with flu. And honestly? I’m a little annoyed with myself.
I’m rarely ill and I suspect I’ve been fighting this off since speaking at ExCeL a couple of weeks ago. But life, work, commitments and all the things that need doing have a habit of taking priority… and perhaps I haven’t given myself enough time to recover.
It’s made me stop and think.
As a Facialist, my hands are my livelihood. They are how I create, how I connect, how I work my magic and do something I genuinely love. But looking after my hands means looking after the whole person they belong to.
And I’m not superhuman. 🤍
I spend so much time reminding my clients that rest is not a luxury, that they don’t need to feel guilty for taking time for themselves and that sometimes the most productive thing they can do is absolutely nothing.
Perhaps it’s time I listened to my own advice.
So, for now, it’s long Epsom salt baths, Altrient vitamin C doubled, my heated throw on the sofa and comforting homemade soup full of turmeric, ginger and brightly coloured vegetables and hopefully, feeling a little more like myself tomorrow.
There is always a little light to be found in everything.
Perhaps this is mine.
A reminder that longevity isn’t just about how we care for our skin. It’s how we care for ourselves, too.
If I want to continue doing what I love, looking after my clients, learning, evolving and creating beautiful things for years to come, then I have to make sure I’m looking after the person behind the hands.
That means allowing myself to pause. Protecting my energy. Making space to breathe. And recognising that just because I can do something doesn’t always mean I should.
A little more balance. A little more breathing space. A little more permission to put myself on the list.
Because I want to be doing this for a very long time yet. And that means taking care of me, too.
It’s never just a facial … and it’s never just about the hands. 🤍
