Is it just me, or does your skin age about 5 years the minute the heating goes on? 😂❄️

Suddenly your makeup sits in every little line, your skin feels tight, and your neck has developed a texture you definitely didn’t order.

Here’s where it gets interesting…

Not all skin boosters are created equal. And more Hyaluronic Acid doesn’t automatically mean better results.

💧 Glycerol helps skin retain moisture. Particularly relevant when cold weather and central heating leave your skin feeling dehydrated.

🧬 Mannitol has antioxidant properties and can help protect Hyaluronic Acid from oxidative breakdown in certain formulations.

And then there’s the Hyaluronic Acid itself.

Cross-linked or non-cross-linked?

One is generally designed to last longer and can provide structure. The other is commonly used in treatments focused on hydration and skin quality.

Neither is automatically better. It depends on what we’re trying to achieve.

This is why I look at the whole formulation, not just the number on the syringe.

Because your skin doesn’t care what’s trending on Instagram. 😂

And sometimes the treatment you think you need isn’t the one I’d recommend.

🚨 “Non-surgical” does NOT mean “risk-free.”

Could England finally be following Scotland’s lead? 👀

The Government has opened a consultation proposing tighter regulation of high-risk cosmetic and wellbeing procedures.

Here’s what could change 👇

💉 Liquid BBLs & non-facial body fillers: Proposed to be classified as cosmetic surgery and restricted to GMC-registered doctors.

🩺 Other high-risk procedures: Cosmetic PRP, deep chemical peels, certain laser treatments, IV wellbeing therapies and other specified procedures would be restricted to particular regulated healthcare professionals, including independent prescribing nurses.

🏥 CQC registration: Required for providers carrying out these specified procedures.

🔞 Under-18s: Additional restrictions proposed, with medical exceptions.

⚖️ Enforcement: Criminal penalties for breaches, potentially including unlimited fines.

Who would this affect?

Practitioners, clinics and patients. Some professionals could no longer offer certain procedures, while providers would need to meet CQC registration requirements.

What happens next?

📅 Consultation closes 13 January 2027.

The Government will review responses before deciding on the final regulations.

⚠️ These are proposals, NOT law yet.

As a nurse and BAMAN Regional Lead, I welcome the focus on stronger patient protection.

Because a medical title alone doesn’t guarantee competence.

Anatomy, appropriate training, clinical judgement, informed consent and knowing how to manage complications are just as important.

Patient safety should be the starting point. Not the selling point.

This might make a few people uncomfortable. I’m uncomfortable watching it become normal. I am refusing to fit in.

The injection deals. The rush to teach. The product claims that fall apart when you ask for evidence. The “empowerment” that comes with conditions. The politics. It’s tiring to play the ‘game’.

And somehow, asking questions makes you the difficult one.
I love being a nurse. That’s exactly why this bothers me. Our registration should mean something in the way we practise, advertise and teach. And honestly, a Nurse Prescriber advertising POM should raise a massive Red flag.
Patients trust us. Students trust us. We need to be worthy of that.
I’m a nurse. Of course I’m going to ask questions. What happened to the real consultations? The real injectors? The healthcare professionals who don’t sell their souls for money?

Not every sign of ageing needs more filler. And not every consultation should end with an injectable.
That’s my approach as a nurse in medical aesthetics. Before we talk about a treatment, we need to understand what’s actually changing.

Facial ageing isn’t just about wrinkles. Collagen production slows, facial fat compartments change, and skin gradually loses firmness and support.

So the question isn’t simply, “Where can we add volume?” It’s, “What’s changing, and what approach is appropriate for you?”
Sometimes, that conversation includes Sculptra®.
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid injectable that stimulates your body’s own collagen production over time. Rather than relying on the immediate volumising effect of a hyaluronic acid filler, its results develop gradually.
But gradual doesn’t mean risk-free. And a treatment being popular doesn’t make it right for your face.
Your anatomy, medical history and expectations matter more than what’s trending. Sometimes I’ll recommend a collagen-stimulating treatment, sometimes a different approach, and sometimes no injectable treatment at all.
