REST isn't really about doing nothing, it's about having some time when you don't have to do anything.

The session begins slowly, with sensory awareness, gentle rocking, stillness and therapeutic touch, before flowing into a full Zen Shiatsu treatment.

It's particularly lovely for those times when you feel overheld, overstretched, emotionally full or simply in need of a different way into bodywork.

You don't need to arrive knowing what you need.
That's the point.
We can find out together.

I'm settling into my new treatment room at Apex House in Monmouth and it's a different space, but the thing that matters most to me hasn't changed.

A quiet place to arrive.

A space where you don't need to perform or explain everything.

Time to slow down, be listened to and allow the treatment to respond to where you are that day.

Sometimes we're tired because we've done too much and sometimes we're tired because we've been thinking too much.

Sometimes we're tired because we've been holding things together for other people and sometimes we're simply ready for a pause.

Shiatsu doesn't require you to arrive knowing exactly what you need.

That's part of the work.

We start where you are and see what your body has to say.

Not what should it need...
Not what did it need last week...
Not what someone else says it needs...
Just…
What does your body need today?
More movement?
More rest?
Some warmth?
A little space?
Someone to listen?
It's a question I think is worth asking more often.

Autumn gets talked about a lot as a season of letting go. But perhaps it's not always about throwing things away? Sometimes it's about noticing what still matters.

What deserves your energy?
What no longer does?
What have you been carrying simply because you've been carrying it for so long?
There can be something quite powerful in pausing before deciding what needs to change.

REST is still a relatively new part of my practice, so I'm especially grateful when someone takes the time to share how their experience felt.

I particularly love the words gently emotional.

REST begins differently from a traditional Shiatsu treatment — more slowly, with sensory awareness, gentle rocking, stillness and therapeutic touch before flowing naturally into the Shiatsu itself.

There isn't a particular experience I'm trying to create.
You might simply feel deeply rested. You might notice things you hadn't noticed before. You might feel emotional. Or you might just enjoy an hour and a half of not having to do anything.

The invitation is simply to arrive, notice and be supported in whatever is there.
Thank you for trusting me with your REST experience. 🤍

I never take feedback like this for granted.

Every person who comes for Shiatsu arrives with a different body, a different story and a different day. My role is to listen, observe and respond — and to offer the body what it needs in that moment. So hearing that someone left feeling more relaxed, more energetic and that the session felt like exactly what they needed means a great deal.
No two Shiatsu sessions are the same.

Thank you for trusting me with your care. 🤍

There isn't really a standard Shiatsu treatment. We often begin by talking about how you are and what's been going on for you. But it isn't always necessary....

Then, once you're on the futon, I listen in a different way.

Through touch, pressure, movement, stretches and stillness, I notice how your body responds and allow the treatment to unfold from there.

One day you might need something grounding and quiet. Another day you might need more movement and space. Sometimes what you thought you needed when you arrived turns out not to be quite what your body is asking for.

That's part of what makes Shiatsu so interesting for any session - both for the giver and receiver.
