Last week, while out and about in Musselburgh, the Life Programme group stopped by the aviary at Lewisvale Park to say hello to some of its feathered residents.

You know how much we love our animals at Edge, so an unexpected opportunity to meet a few more is always welcome!

A little autumn comfort to start the week! 🍎🍏

Nothing says autumn quite like a homemade apple crumble!

Last week, our programme groups made the most of seasonal ingredients to create this classic, budget-friendly pudding.

From preparing fruit and measuring ingredients to following recipes, managing timings and using kitchen equipment safely, there's plenty of practical learning packed into this delicious crumble!

The Edge to Edge Expedition 2.0 is back, and we've got our sights firmly set on that finish line at Leamington Lift Bridge!

Friday 13th November is our backup date, should the Scottish weather have other ideas!

Just over 365 days ago, this site was an empty plot of land.
Today? It’s a full-on, bustling outdoor hub where our group builds real practical skills, works as a team, and turns big ideas into actual builds.

A massive thanks to Eskmills , whose generosity has led to the creation of an amazing new space. It has allowed us to bring an unused area of the estate back to life. Without their support and partnership none of this would have been possible.

Working with the team at OutdoorClassrooms.Scot has brought brilliant momentum out into the woods!
From navigating maps, survival skills, learning through nature to constructing outdoor features, these sessions give our groups the perfect setup to sharpen real-time problem-solving, communication, and practical teamwork in the outdoors.

To every single person and business who donated tools, raw timber, or dropped off wood-chips - you helped build this! 📦
Every contribution goes straight into the woods, giving our young adults the tools and materials they need to lead real projects and see their hard work pay off. Here’s to year two! 🎉

Huge shoutout to Centrica (Scottish Gas) teams for bringing top-tier energy to the site! 🪵
They got stuck into digging/tree roots, sawing timber, framing structures, and putting up raised beds.
Not all heroes wear capes, some pick up spades.

Navigation skills for everyday life! 🧭

The Community group has been putting their navigation skills to the test!

Following directions, recognising landmarks, problem-solving and making decisions - all essential, transferable skills that build confidence and independence in everyday life.

Blue skies, Seacliff Beach and that unmistakable view out to the Bass Rock.

Whatever the weather, we’re pretty lucky to have all of this on our doorstep.

The Life Programme group has been putting their practical skills to work in Edge Woods, developing outdoor survival skills, building shelters and helping with work on The Bothy.
Using tools safely, following instructions, solving problems and working together …all valuable skills that support independence, confidence and future employability.

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 = 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 = 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀!

🇯🇵 A Taste of Japan!

Japanese food was on the menu for the Academy group last week! They put their growing culinary skills to the test, planning recipes, working to a budget and preparing an incredible selection of dishes, from ramen to omelette parcels!

From planning and budgeting to putting their kitchen skills into practice, this was a fantastic showcase of confidence, independence and some seriously impressive cooking! 👏

Our Harlawhill Day Care Centre Annual Fundraiser takes place on Sunday 1st November and we're asking our wonderful community and local businesses if they could help us with some donations of raffle prizes.

Every penny raised will go towards our New Bus Fund!

Our trusty old minibus has served us well over the last 10 years, but it's getting older and increasingly expensive to maintain. For many of our members, it's much more than just a bus. It's their lifeline to Harlawhill, collecting them from their homes and bringing them to a place filled with friendship, laughter, music and companionship.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we've already made tremendous progress towards our fundraising target. We're hoping to be in a position to start the search for our new accessible minibus in the New Year!

🎁 COULD YOU HELP US WITH A RAFFLE PRIZE? We're looking for donations such as:

🍫 Chocolates and sweet treats
