Today marks the beginning of Becker Awareness Week | 4–10 October.

At TREAT-NMD, Becker is an important part of our work. We believe that bringing people together, sharing knowledge and listening to the community can help move research, care and treatments forward.

Through education and events we're committed to informing, and connecting the neuromuscular community in order to advance the development of therapeutic treatments for those living with Becker Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases.

LGMD Awareness Day 2026

Today, we stand with everyone affected by limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD) and the wider LGMD community.

At TREAT-NMD, LGMD is an important part of our work. We believe that progress starts with **Informing, Connecting and Advancing** – sharing knowledge, bringing people together and supporting work towards better treatments and care.

This year’s theme, Advocate Educate Celebrate, is a reminder of the strength of the LGMD community and the importance of coming together to raise awareness and support progress.

It’s been just over a week since our Becker Education & Engagement Day in Manchester, and we're still reflecting on the meaningful conversations, valuable insights and the new connections that were formed across the two-day event.

It brought together people living with Becker muscular dystrophy, families, caregivers and clinical experts to:
✓ Learn from leading experts and ask questions in a supportive environment
✓ Gain practical information to support informed decision-making
✓ Share experiences with others who know the realities of living with Becker
✓ Explore current research and developments in care
✓ Strengthen connections across the Becker community

Today is International Myotonic Dystrophy Awareness Day 💚

We’re joining the global community to raise awareness of myotonic dystrophy (DM), a rare inherited neuromuscular disease that can affect muscle function and multiple systems of the body.

Greater awareness, research and collaboration are essential to improving diagnosis, care and treatment for people living with DM.

We’re hosting our second Becker Education and Engagement Day for patients, carers and families, in collaboration with Muscular Dystrophy UK and BMD-Hub.

This event is an opportunity for patients, carers and families to connect with the wider Becker community. Across two days, attendees will hear from clinical experts and people with lived experience, with opportunities for open discussion, shared learning and connection with others affected by Becker muscular dystrophy.
