Hello friends and my dear patients
I wanted to share something today that I really think could save some of you time, frustration and possibly another long wait.
I recently saw a patient who had been waiting for months for an ENT appointment, as many of us know, these waits can be long.
When she finally got to her appointment, there was one problemā¦
Her ears were blocked with wax, so the examination couldnāt be completed properly š
She came to see me and, after removing the wax, I noticed something underneath that didnāt look quite right. š
I wonāt go into too much detail here, but I did what I always do when Iām unsure - I sought clinical advice from the Tympa clinical team.
Their advice was that further management was needed to review the changes and make sure they were not progressing.
And this is where I felt so sorry for my patientā¦
She now needs to wait again to see ENT, when having her ears checked and cleared before the original appointment could potentially have avoided this extra delay.
Now, Iām not saying everyone needs to have their ears cleaned before seeing ENT.
But if you already know that you (might) have a build-up of wax, or youāre unsure whether your ears are clear enough to be examined properly, it may be worth getting them checked before your appointment.
Not every GP surgery offers routine earwax removal, and access to NHS earwax services varies depending on where you live.
So if you have an ENT appointment coming up and youāre wondering:
Do I have wax blocking the view?ā I can check.
š Ear health check (otoscopy) is Ā£35 in the clinic (and Ā£55 for a home visit) to assess whatās going on.
Sometimes £35 and a little preparation can save you a lot of frustration later.
If you have an upcoming ENT appointment and want to make sure your ears are ready, send me a message and we can arrange a check.
