This Stoptober, give your eyes a break! 👁️🚭

Did you know that smoking significantly increases your risk of sight loss if you have diabetes? Smoking raises blood pressure and restricts oxygen, which damages the delicate blood vessels in your retina and accelerates diabetic retinopathy.

The good news? Quitting smoking immediately starts to reduce this risk and helps stabilize your eye health.

Use Stoptober as your motivation to quit. Protect your vision, reach out to local stop-smoking services for support, and always attend your diabetic eye screening when invited.

Every year, thousands of children across England miss important health appointments — and for paediatric clinics, around 1 in 10 appointments are recorded as Was Not Brought (WNB).

For children living with diabetes, missing eye screening means missing vital checks that help protect their sight. Repeated WNBs can also be an early sign of unmet health needs or safeguarding concerns, which is why national guidance asks all services to look closely at patterns of non‑attendance.

If you’re finding it hard to get to your child’s appointment, please let us know.
We can help rearrange and make sure they don’t miss the care they need.

Your child’s safety and sight matter — and we’re here to help.

For more information or to rearrange please contact us on the number in the image below

💚 World Mental Health Day 2026 💚

Mental health matters, every day.

This World Mental Health Day, we're reminding everyone that it's okay to ask for help. Whether you're struggling yourself or supporting someone else, reaching out can be the first step towards hope and recovery.

No one should face mental health challenges alone. A conversation, a listening ear, or professional support can make a real difference.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available:

📞 Samaritans (24/7): 116 123
🌐 samaritans.org

📞 NHS 111 (select Mental Health Option where available)
🌐 nhs.uk/mental-health

📞 Shout (24/7 text support): Text SHOUT to 85258
🌐 giveusashout.org

🚨 If someone is at immediate risk of harm, call 999 or go to your nearest A&E department.

Today, let's help break the stigma, encourage open conversations, and remind each other that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

"Keep reaching. The dark doesn't define you, and you don't need to face it alone." 💚

👁️ World Sight Day is a reminder that sight loss isn't always inevitable.

For people living with diabetes, diabetic retinopathy can develop silently, without pain or changes to vision. Regular diabetic eye screening plays a vital role in detecting problems early and helping preserve sight.

When your invitation arrives, attend your appointment and encourage friends or family members with diabetes to do the same.
