🏥Yesterday, the Atos Care Field and Best Start Nursing teams had the privilege of attending an Airway Study Day at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, delivered alongside leading NHS clinicians.
As specialist nurses supporting patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies across the UK, continuous professional development is essential to ensure our practice remains current, evidence-based, and aligned with the standards being implemented across the NHS. Opportunities like this allow our team to learn directly from expert clinicians, share experiences, and strengthen the collaborative relationships that are so important throughout the patient pathway.
A key focus of the day was the practical simulation scenarios, which provided hands-on training in advanced tracheostomy care, the recognition of clinical deterioration, and the management of red flags and emergency situations in community and home settings. These are skills that can make a critical difference for some of our most vulnerable patients and their families.
The team also explored the latest developments in community tracheostomy care, including discussions around the evolving National Tracheostomy Safety Project (NTSP) guidance and its application outside the acute hospital environment. Keeping pace with emerging guidance helps ensure we continue to deliver safe, high-quality care while supporting patients to live independently in their own homes.
At Atos Care, our nurses work in partnership with NHS clinicians every day. Investing in education and simulation training such as this helps us maintain our specialist expertise, challenge our thinking, and ultimately improve outcomes for the patients and healthcare professionals we support.
⭐A huge thank you to the Royal Devon and Exeter CNS team for organising and hosting such a valuable and engaging day, and for their ongoing commitment to shared learning and clinical excellence. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the years ahead.
