Such a light touch. But a pretty amazing response underneath. 💙
Manual Lymphatic Drainage isn’t deep massage.
The gentle stretching of the skin places tension on tiny anchoring filaments connected to the lymphatic capillaries. As tissue pressure changes, the overlapping endothelial flaps of these initial lymphatics can open, allowing interstitial fluid and its contents to enter.
Once inside, it becomes lymph and continues into larger lymphatic vessels.
This is one of the reasons MLD can feel incredibly gentle while still having a physiological purpose.
We don't have to push harder to influence the lymphatic system.
Sometimes the lightest touch is working with an extraordinary transport system just beneath our skin.
More on inflammation, healing, pain, injury and MLD in my next article.
