Families are some of the most important people in a learner's AAC journey. They know the learner best, support communication every day and are key partners in helping AAC succeed.

You Matter brings families and professionals together as equal partners, helping them develop their understanding of communication and explore practical ways to support AAC. Through structured sessions, participants learn about communication development, communication partner strategies, goal setting and creating positive communication environments.

At its heart, You Matter recognises something important: supporting AAC isn't just about the learner. It's also about supporting the people around them.

This , take the opportunity to discover why You Matter has helped so many families and professionals build confidence in supporting AAC.

Last chance! You Matter is 50% off throughout October for AAC Awareness Month.

Communication is about more than making choices or answering questions. It's about sharing opinions, experiences and the things that matter to you.

Express Yourself! resource is packed with practical ideas to help learners who use AAC take a more active role in group activities and conversations. It explores ways to support self-expression through music, storytelling, learner voice, peer interaction and shared decision-making.

The resource encourages us to think beyond participation and create opportunities for learners to communicate their ideas, preferences and personalities in meaningful ways.

This , take a moment to reflect: how many opportunities do the learners you support have to express themselves each day?

If you're exploring AAC, three questions often come up:

Who needs AAC?
What is AAC?
When should AAC be introduced?

Understanding AAC often starts with these three questions. The answers can help challenge common misconceptions and build a stronger understanding of how AAC can support communication.

AAC isn't just for a particular age, diagnosis or level of ability. It can support people with a wide range of communication needs, and it's often beneficial to start exploring AAC earlier than many people expect.

That's why Ace Centre Learning has developed three on demand introductory courses that tackle these questions. Whether you're a family member, educator, therapist or someone new to AAC, these short courses are a great way to build your understanding and confidence.

This , why not start with the questions that so many people ask?

At Ace Centre, our case study videos showcase a wide range of experiences. From young learners developing their communication, to adults using AAC and Assistive Technology in different aspects of their lives, the videos highlight the many different ways people access communication and achieve their goals.

This , take some time to hear directly from the people who use AAC and those who support them.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to share their views, preferences and opinions.

Talking Mats is a well-established tool that helps people structure conversations, reflect on their experiences and express what they think about different aspects of their lives. By using a visual framework alongside symbols, words or pictures, it can support more meaningful and inclusive discussions.

That's why Ace Centre has worked with Talking Mats to develop a range of AAC-focused modules. These resources help AAC users explore topics such as their communication system, access, participation, communication partners and the support they receive.

It's not about finding the "right" answer. It's about creating opportunities for AAC users to share their experiences, express what matters to them and influence decisions that affect their lives.

This , explore how Talking Mats can support person-centred conversations and help ensure AAC users are heard.

🍂✨ AAC in Action: Autumn Festivals

Autumn celebrations like Halloween, Diwali and Bonfire Night are perfect opportunities to model language using AAC! 🎃🪔🔥

Instead of adding seasonal words, use core, descriptive, and action words already in your AAC system to make communication flexible and meaningful.

Examples include go, look, fun, happy, loud and big!

Model during real experiences—talk about what the learner sees, feels, and does!

Switches can provide access to communication, learning, play, technology and the environment. But successful switch access starts with understanding the individual, not the switch itself.

A good switch assessment considers far more than whether someone can press a button. It explores movement, positioning, fatigue, motivation, activities and personal preferences to identify the most effective and sustainable solution.

Ace Centre's free Framework for Switch Assessment for People with Physical Disabilities helps professionals take a structured approach to switch assessment, supporting decision-making around switch type, placement, mounting and skill development. It also highlights the importance of involving the individual and the wider team throughout the process.

This , why not explore a framework that puts the individual at the centre of switch assessment?
